Obituary

Bertha Ernestine Moore (Age 69) of Washington, DC.

Bertha Ernestine Moore, 69, transitioned from this life to her heavenly home on October 18, 2018 at 05:46 p.m. at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. She was a woman that was radiated with love, laughter and happiness.

Bertha was born on August 25, 1949 in Wilson County, North Carolina to Chester Meeks and Manni Barron. She was the fourth child of five children; three sisters and two brothers.   Bertha was preceded in death by her two sisters and one of her brothers.

Bertha received her education in Wilson County Public Schools in North Carolina and graduated from Speight High School in 1967, where she met the love of her life. Shortly after graduation Bertha moved to the District of Columbia with her older family friends. She started working at the Marriott Hop Shop as a waitress and hostess. Bertha continued to date her high school sweetheart until he came home from the military in 1970. On August 22, 1970, Bertha married the love of her life, William Moore Jr. They shared 48 years of marriage together.

At an early age, Bertha gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the New Cannon Baptist Church, which was the first family church. Later in her years, she decided to move her church fellowship to Fort Foote Baptist Church in Fort Washington, MD. Bertha had a very giving spirit. If you needed her for anything, she was always happy and willing to lend a helping hand. Bertha loved shopping, interior decorating, dancing and spending time with family and friends.

Bertha had strong work ethics, managerial and leadership traits. She never hesitated to give some direction on what they needed to do or give her guidance on how to handle a situation. She started her managerial career at the Riggs National Bank in Washington, DC. Afterwards, she moved her experience to work at the National Rifle Association and the Ferris Bankers of Watts in Maryland until her retirement.

Bertha leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband, William Moore Jr; their two children: William Moore III (Connie) and Monique Michelle Moore; two step children: Keithan Matthews (Angie) and Shelisa Edwards; three grandchildren: DeAngelo Robinson, Cortni Thomas and Sierra Moore; one brother, James "Little Buddy Boy" Meeks of Raleigh North Carolina; one sister, Margaret Jean Meeks of Pine Top, North Carolina, two-sisters-in-law; Barbara Meeks of Rocky Mount, North Carolina and Hattie Meeks of Raleigh North Carolina; long life best friend, Phenomia Jackson (Fee-Fee).
