Obituary

William Syvester King "Petie" was born on October 29th, 1956, to the late Edward King and Ruth-Ann King in Washington D.C. Petie transitioned from this life on February 24th, 2023, to be with the Lord. He was proceeded in death by his father Edward King, his mother Ruth-Ann King, his sister Monica King, and brothers Delvon King and Shaun Johnson.

Petie accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a dedicated and devoted member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Bryans Road, Maryland. Petie served on the Usher Board, Men of Faith Ministry, and Culinary Arts Ministry at Macedonia Baptist Church for many years.

Petie received his education in Charles County Public Schools. He was one of the first employees at the Marshall Hall Amusement Park in Bryans Road MD. He continued his career at the Indian Head Naval Base and recently was employed by Chopp and Company in Waldorf, MD. His huge heart and loving spirit allowed him to impact so many lives. He was known to be "Laid Back" and would help anyone in their time of need. Spending time with family was Petie's favorite thing to do. He would always say, "Family has to stick together" and he meant that! He was a proud fan of the Washington Commanders. Petie enjoyed grilling and his famous potato salad was requested at family events and celebrations. Among his other hobbies he also enjoyed collecting movies. His movie collection ranged from old western films to classic action films. Petie always had a huge smile on his face and expressed his love for his family and the Lord.

Petie is genuinely loved by so many and will truly be missed. He leaves behind to cherish his memory, His Sister:  Karla King. Brothers: Andre King and Corey King (Contessa). Uncle: Calvin Dixon. Aunt: Suzzette Cox. Great Aunts: Alice Chisley and Rebecca King. Nieces: Jessica Ford (Brian), Tynise King, Brianna Sharp (Torri), Janaire King, Kyisha King, Erin Cole, and Tayshia Goldring. Nephews: Daurice Johnson, Corey King Jr and Dequan Proctor. Stepchildren: Tony Yates, Arlean Yates, and Shawndell Yates. Along with a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Friends may visit with the family Friday, March 10 from 10am until time of funeral service at 11am in The Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, 3439 Livingston Road Indian Head, MD 20640. Interment immediately to follow at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery, Bryans Road, MD.
