Obituary

William Miles was born to the late Mary Frances Curtis and the late William Joseph Somerville in Chaptico, MD on April 15, 1954. William transitioned from his earthly life and entered eternal rest on September 17, 2024.

Affectionately known as "Buster" to many friends and family, he relocated to Washington, DC and graduated from John Carroll High School. Later, he graduated and received a certification in Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) from Lincoln Tech, and briefly attended Howard University. He had a passion for repairing air conditioning units and loved to share his skills by training and teaching other apprentices. He took great pride in training his grandson Christian and cousin Brian. Buster had gifted hands and a zeal for fixing any appliance.

Early in his career, he was employed with Sears, Roebuck and Co. as an appliance repair technician specializing in washers, dryers, refrigerators, all HVAC, and more. Afterwards, he worked for several apartment complexes as a maintenance technician overseeing repairs, installations, and ensuring operational efficiency. With his many skills and talents, he was an entrepreneur and subject matter expert in the HVAC industry and serviced many commercial businesses, residential homes, families and communities often at a substantially reduced price.

He dedicated his life to Christ at an early age and was an altar server at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Washington, DC. Buster had a heart of gold and would literally give you the shirt off his back. He had a special love for his mother Mary who he admired, and unconditional love for his daughters: Tiffane and Naisha. He was also a doting and proud grandfather. He married the love of his life Elma "Lois" Wilcox Miles, and the two shared a special and unbreakable bond for over 26 years. He had great admiration for all his family, especially his Uncle John, his brother Joe, and his partner in crime Aunt Lu who affectionately called him "Dooley". Buster was an avid fisherman and loved taking his boat out on the water. In addition, he had a special place in his heart and was especially fond of his dog "Snoop".

Buster was very genuine and kind-hearted with impeccable hospitality. If you stopped by for a visit to his home, he would make sure you visited the city, were very well fed, enjoyed his home-made seafood salad, and felt welcomed with his endless hours of talking and jokes. We will always remember his infectious smile that would light up the world and brighten your heart. To know him, was to simply love him.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife: Elma (Lois) Wilcox Miles; daughters: Tiffane (Ibrahim), Naisha (Larry); son Dyron (Tammy): brothers: Joseph Young (Valeen); sister: Mary Alice Young; aunts: Louvina Miles and Barbara Miles-Williams; grandchildren: Cole, Troy, Christian, Dionne, and Jordan; great grandchild: Joi; beloved cousins: Rita, Lynwood, Kevin, Tama, Charon, Karen, Crystal, and Sharlene; godchildren: Nehemiah, Gregory, Rontae, Erica, Demaya; best friend: Joey Roundtree; special friend: Jackie Cannon, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his sisters Pamela Barnes, Mishel Chase and brother Charles Young.
