IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wilbert Leroy
Young
August 12, 1941 – August 20, 2025
Young, Wilbert "Leroy" (Age 84) of Malcolm, Maryland
Wilbert "Leroy" Young was born on August 12, 1941, and departed this life on August 20, 2025, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center. He was the son of the late Daniel "Mike" Marshall and Nellie Agnes Young.
He received his educational training in the Charles County Public School System graduating from Pomonkey High School in 1959. The school system ensured he was prepared for a career in the federal government.
Upon graduation from high school, he entered the work force at Indian Head Naval Ordnance Station. While working at Indian Head, he helped design and build various explosive weaponry for the United States Military. Additionally, he spent several years working with the Charles County Public Schools.
He spent almost 40 years at Indian Head before retiring in 1999 to spend extended time with his family and friends and more time enjoying his hobbies. Some of those hobbies included hunting, fishing, frying fish, playing cards with family and friends, traveling, especially to football games with "the fellas" and getting together with the guys to tell tall tales while watching the Commanders/Redskins football games.
Leroy was extremely thoughtful and personable. As a DJ, he spent countless hours at social events spinning records and socializing with everyone. During his younger years, he coached several youth teams ensuring players had meals and rides to and from practices and games in the big red van. That van also helped transport the Black Diamond Band and Show's equipment and various band members to many gigs over the years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Cecelia L. Young, and his loving daughter, Melissa Young.
He leaves to cherish his memories and celebrate his life, his children, Wilbert "Ken" Young (Michelle), Joyce Dickens, Cyndee Hill (Phillip), Daniel "Tim" Young (Jill), Justin Peyton and Latoya Peyton; brothers, Reginald "Lebo" Young Sr. (Florence), Billy Wood (Doreen), Tommy Wood; sister, Patricia Wood-Giles; sisters-in-law, Dollie Reeves and June Proctor; his special cousin and neighbor of 50 years, Esther Briscoe; close friends, Ann Peyton, Joe Yates, Ella Mae and Jim; and a host of relatives and friends. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
