Dyson, Walter Kenneth Stringer, 86 of Upper Marlboro, formerly of Bryans Road, Maryland.
Obituary
Walter Kenneth "Kenny" Stringer Dyson, formerly of Bryans Road, Maryland, departed this life on Monday, January 6, 2020 at his home in Largo, Maryland after a brief illness.
He was born on August 10, 1933 to the late Theodore Oliver Stringer, Sr. and Florenda Dyson Stringer, and was the eldest of nine children. Walter was educated in the Charles County Public School system and raised in the Methodist church. In his early years, he met and married Margaret Harris, and of that union six children were born. He later met a wonderful soul mate, Juanita Green and her two children April and Feon, whom he raised and loved as his own.
He worked in various occupations including an explosive worker at the Indian Head Base, custodial worker with the Prince Georges County Public School system, truck driver, laborer, brick layer, and the Virginia State Department where he retired in 1997.
"Kenny" or "Uncle Kenny" as he was affectionately called loved "oldie but goodies" and gospel music. He especially loved the oldies on radio station 89.3 WPFW. He also loved boxing and dancing, but his greatest love was his family. Whenever you would see him, his first two questions were "what's my name?" and "who is the oldest"? Not only was he a dynamite brother, father, granddad, great-granddad, uncle and friend, he stood in for so many of us as a father, friend, teacher and mentor—he was the family "go to" for comfort and knowledge. Oh, what a man…what a mighty good man!
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Florenda Stringer; son, Walter Kenneth Stringer, Jr.; and sisters, Vera L. Gray and Annie V. Adams.
He leaves to cherish his love and memories: five daughters, Yvette Stringer (Bae), Yvonne Sparrow (Kenny), Elizabeth Frednell Stringer (Anthony), Brenda Marshall (Freddy), April Brown (Ken); two sons, Roderick Stringer and Feon McCoy; two brothers, William Stringer and Theodore Stringer, Jr.; four sisters, Melissa Myers, Evelyn Davis (Issac), Mary Ann Stringer, and Diane Adams; three brothers-in-law, Joseph "Buck" Adams, James Gray, and Issac Davis; one sister-in-law, Louise Stringer; twenty grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren; a devoted friend and confidant Raymond Ray Jackson; a first cousin that was raised as his brother, Alfred Garnell Stringer, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
His viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of service, 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 13, 2020, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment, Heritage Memorial Cemetery, 13472 Poplar Hill Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
