Early Thursday morning, June 29, 2017, at the Genesis Healthcare Center in Waldorf, Maryland, Veronica Louise Cooper Lewis, peacefully transitioned to eternal life.
Veronica was born in Mc Conchie, Maryland on Wednesday, September 14, 1949 to the late James Henry Cooper and the late Mary Regina Dunmore Harrison. She was raised and educated in Charles County, Maryland.
Veronica was employed with and retired from Safeway Stores, Inc. and then worked part-time with Costco Warehouse.
As a child, Veronica was baptized and was a parishioner of St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Mc Conchie, Maryland. Later in life she accepted Jesus Christ as her Personal Lord and Savor and joined First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Landover, Maryland under the leadership of Pastor John K. Jenkins, Sr. Veronica loved the Lord, she gave of her time and talent as a member of the choir at First Baptist Church of Glenarden. She not only enjoyed singing Gospel music, but also listening to it as well. She also enjoyed attending Women's Conferences and visiting Casinos. She was an outgoing person, socializing with family and friends wherever she encountered them, especially at the Safeway. Veronica loved her family and the time she spent with them. Veronica was married to the love of her life, Johnnie L. Lewis, Sr. who preceded her in death.
In addition to her parents and husband, Veronica was preceded in death by her brothers, James E. Cooper and Calvin I. Cooper, Sr., Joseph S. Harrison and William Harrison, Cecil Brown and Melvin Brown, sisters, Alice Hamilton, Bertha S. Gamble, Mary Proctor and Lucille Lyles.
Left to cherish many loving memories are; two sisters, Agnes Theresa Keys (John) and Doris Fountaine (Warren); three brothers, George Cooper (Shirley), Charles Cooper (Adriana) and William Brown (Denise); sisters-in-law, Barbara Cooper and Judy Harrison Samuel; two uncles, Frank Cooper (June) and Ignatius Cooper (Ruth); Although Veronica has a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, she was especially close to her niece, Joyce Proctor Wolfe (Dwayne) becoming her surrogate mother. She also had a very devoted cousin, Mary "Linda" Cooper and a devoted friend, James Peter Scott.
