Life Profile

Vernon Carlton Walton was born, Sunday, June 1, 1941 in Pomonkey, Maryland to Benjamin Harrison Walton and Roberta Lucille (Carroll) Walton. His father was a prominent businessman and his mother was a teacher for the Charles County Public Schools System.

Vernon attended Pomonkey High School and graduated in 1959 with honors. After graduation, he attended Morgan State College (now University) and earned a degree in Chemistry.  After college, Vernon joined the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as a chemist.  He worked in various offices in the agency, retiring as a Review Chemist from the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research's Office of Generic Drugs in 1999.

After retirement, Vernon enjoyed spending time with family and friends.  He loved returning home to spend time with his family and friends at Walton's Market.  During retirement, Vernon became a grandfather and loved his new role.

Later in life, Vernon excepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

On Friday, October 27, 2017, Vernon Carlton Walton, transitioned to eternal life at the Hospice House of Charles County in Waldorf, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin Harrison Walton and Roberta Lucille (Carroll) Walton; siblings, Shirley Johnson, Bennett and Sherman Walton.

He was the beloved father of Tracy (Walton) Ellerbe (Hubert) and Tina Wesson-Tolbert (Michael); doting grandfather of Daniel Walton and Jillian Tolbert; brother of Barbara Tyler, Vera Merritt, Kline, Rodney and Carroll Walton.  Also surviving are a host of relatives, nieces: Melody, Karen, Shelley, Stacy, nephews: Eric, Jeffrey, Corey, Travis and Nicholas.

Viewing, 6:00pm until time of Service, 7:00pm, Friday, November 3, 2017 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.

Interment, 12 noon, Saturday, November 4, 2017, Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601.
