Obituary

Keys, Toykia Kenya "Tekie" (Age 39) of Fort Washington, Maryland.

Toykia (Tekie) Kenya Keys was born January 13, 1974 to Frances (Poopie) Keys and William Blake. On May 27, 2013 Tekie received her call from God to come home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Tekie gave her life to Christ at an early age. She became a member of Grace United Methodist Church alongside her mother and John E. Keys who nurtured and raised her as his daughter and whom she called "daddy."

Tekie will be remembered as the diva of divas; always dressed to impress, colorful in nails and hair, but naturally beautiful inside and out. She enjoyed every aspect of life. She and her mother enjoyed talking on the phone about movies and life, even though it would sometimes end with a next day make up call – LOL. In her quiet time, Tekie was an adamant reader. If she was not out and about enjoying her family and friends, she could be found sitting at home quietly reading a novel. If the novel, friends and family were not available, you could send a shout-out to her on Facebook.

Tekie's greatest joy was being a mother to her son (Kamany). She called Kamany her little man. If they were not at a movie, an amusement park, listening to music, Kamany was teaching her the facts of her life. He was always trying to dress her, choose her friends, tell her where to hang out, and with whom she could hang with. Together they were a joy to watch because they enjoyed and loved each other.

Tekie was passionate about achievement and hard work. After graduating from Friendly High School, Tekie enrolled at Baltimore City Community College. Tekie would later join the work force and found great joy in her work as an Administrative Assistant for The Office of Science Advisory, U.S. Fisher Wildlife Services. Tekie would attest, she had the best job and worked alongside the greatest people. But of her accomplishments, her greatest was being a breast cancer survivor.

Tekie Toykia Kenya Keys was preceded in death by her grandparents Clyde and Celestine West.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories, her parents Poopie and John Keys, her brother Juma Keys, her nephew, Samaaj Keys – grandparents Beatrice Blake and Inez Keys Butler, her BFFL Gerri Roland, a special friend Sean Nixon and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins and a host of friends.

Visitation, 9am until time of Service 11am, Monday, June 3, 2013 at Westphalia United Methodist Church, 9363 D'Arcy Road, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland.
