IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Sylvester
Woodland
May 20, 1925 – June 9, 2017
Thomas Sylvester Woodland was born May 20, 1925 to the late James Edward and Mabel Gertrude (Lyles) Woodland in Indian Head, Maryland and was educated in the Charles County Public School System. He was a construction worker by trade and took great pride in the work he did. Our father enjoyed life to the fullest. How does one sum up 92 years in a few simple paragraphs? Well, Thomas was a good man and he loved to look and feel good about himself. Even when he worked construction he would come home shower and put on a suit or dress slacks, shirt and tie, and of course his hat which he was rarely seen without. He had a smile on his face every time you would see him. He enjoyed living at Branchwood Towers where he knew and befriended many of the residents and staff. He enjoyed taking walks and even at age 91 he and Lena would walk to the McDonald's near his home to grab some breakfast and a cup of coffee.
Thomas also loved playing lottery numbers and won quite often. Playing spades with friends and family was one of his favorite past times. He would talk trash about how bad he would beat the other team. He liked to draw and was quite the artist. He really loved music; his favorites being Blues and Jazz. He was also pretty good at playing the guitar. We can't forget about the ice cream. He loved ice cream! Butter pecan was his favorite. Thomas truly loved his family and was always happy to see everyone. If you called him on the phone he would always know who you were. He had an excellent memory even to the end often reminiscing about things that people said or did in the past. He lived a good full life and he lived it with few regrets. He would always say how God has been good to him and if he saw fit to take him home he was good with that. He said that when he died it would be like taking a nap. He was not afraid. We are so thankful to have had him in our lives for as long as we did. We will miss so many things about him; his sense of humor his tell-it-like-it-is frankness, his loving kindness, and his beautiful smile! May we all treasure our memories of him.
