Obituary

Smoot, Thomas Elroy Jr. (Age 53) of Indian Head, Maryland

Thomas Elroy Smoot Jr., 53, affectionately known to most as "Elroy" entered into eternal rest at Bridgepoint Sub-Acute Rehabilitation Center in Washington D.C. on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2021. Born on April 3, 1968 in LaPlata, MD. He was the oldest son of the late "Tommy" and "Francine" Smoot.

Elroy was dedicated to his job with the Charles County Public School system for 14 years. He enjoyed working at various schools such as Milton Somers, Eva Turner and Walter J. Mitchell. He developed lifelong friendships with the staff, students and parents. You could also count on him to put a smile on your face. He had a sense of humor that was out of this world.

In Elroy's younger years, he enjoyed working alongside his father at Sears and their family business Smoot's Delivery Service. Elroy was an amazing and devoted father. He always enjoyed spending time with his children and family. He loved to travel frequently with his fiancé, Penny, and her family to different places. Elroy wasn't big on flying, but he had no problem driving around the world. Elroy had a heart of gold; he would give you the shirt of his back. You could also call on him if you needed help.

Elroy was a DIE-HARD Dallas Cowboys fan. He always spoke his mind and loved talking trash. In his mind, he was always right (even when he knew he was wrong). One thing about Elroy is if you were in his presence, you were loved because he would let you know if he did not like you (with that nose frowned up) or wanted you around him. He enjoyed spending time with his favorite cousin, Derek Smoot, working on cars and talking trash to each other. Once his father passed away, Elroy had big shoes to fill. He turned into the family handy man and mechanic. He would cuss and fuss, but he would be right there to lend a helping hand.

Elroy's favorite line to his siblings was "I'm the BIG BROTHER!" Elroy shared a special bond with all of his siblings, but he had a very particular bond with his "little oldest" sister Shelley. Elroy and Shelley shared the same birthday (only one year apart) and they would always race every year to see who would say "Happy Birthday" first.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his grandparents: Francis & Ruth Frederick and Joseph and Hazel Smoot, aunts: Maryanna and Margaret Smoot, Harriet Rolland and Shirley Green-Smoot, uncles: Joseph and Robert "Duke" Smoot, Maurice Rolland, Leroy Chase and Larry Woodland.

Left to cherish his loving memories are his children Darius, Tyron and Kiara. Sisters: Shelley and Chrystal Smoot and Nate' Thomas (Mark). Brother: Damian (Latisha) Smoot. Aunts: Darlene Cole (Mitchell), Lynette Smoot (James), Jereline Smoot, Shirley Chase, Sarah Whitaker (Kleston), Carolyn Woodland. Uncles: John and Thomas "Glenard" Frederick and John Smoot. Fiancé: Terri "Penny" Shorter and Godmother: Kathy Randall. Special cousins that were like his siblings: Yvonne Johnson, Derek Smoot Sr., Bernadette Woodland, Derek Prout, and Queena Walton. Special Friends: Joyce and Kevin Marshall, Lovenne "Beany" Brooks, Wayne Dorsey, and Robert Hall. And a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and coworkers.
