IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Samuel
Prout
November 20, 1937 – August 2, 2019
Thomas Samuel Prout (Age 81) of La Plata, Maryland.
Thomas Samuel Prout was born in Mount Victoria, MD to the late James and Pearl Prout on November 20, 1937. He departed this life peacefully on August 2, 2019 at SagePoint Senior Living.
Thomas was raised in Charles County Maryland. He was educated through the Charles County Public School System and graduated from Bel Alton High School in 1956. It was at Bel Alton High School that he met his wife of fifty years, Ellen Jones Prout.
Thomas believed in hard work and dedication. After high school he was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served four years, touring in both Hawaii and Thailand. Post being honorably discharged he began working as a naval ordnance specialist at NOS (Naval Ordnance Station), for more than thirty years until his retirement.
Thomas was family oriented, caring and a loyal friend to all. There wasn't a task too big or small he wouldn't do to help someone in need. He was known as an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and fed many with his garden. In addition, he loved telling stories of his childhood and collecting various items. You could always find him at local yard sales. However, his most cherished moments were spending time with his grandchildren. He loved "his girls" and you would often find him at a dance recital, soccer game or random trips to McDonalds. He was blessed to live to see his first grandson born and enjoyed playing with him.
Thomas had a strong faith in God. He was a lifelong member of Shiloh Community United Methodist Church. He was a true servant and volunteered within the church community. He was a faithful participant at Sunday services, until he was prohibited by his declining health. He lived by the belief that God was in control and that prayer changes everything!
Thomas was well known and loved in his community. He touched the lives of many and will truly be missed. Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his sons; Derek Prout, Tyrell Prout; daughter-in-laws, Karen Prout, Kelly Prout; grandchildren, Megan, Melanie and Kayden Prout; sisters, Shirley Brown and, Dorothy Hill. He is preceded in death by his loving wife Ellen Prout, parents; James and Pearl Prout; brothers William, Robert, Floyd, James and Louis Prout; sisters Nannie Frasier and Agnes Givens and granddaughter, Jessica Prout. Thomas also leaves to cherish a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and close friends.
