LEWIS, THOMAS HENRY (AGE 64) OF TEMPLE HILLS, MARYLAND
Suddenly on Wednesday, January 27, 2021, Thomas Henry Lewis was called home to be with God. Thomas also known as "Tom", was born on March 13, 1956 in Washington, DC, to the late James W. Lewis and Elizabeth C. Lewis Davis. He was the fourth child of five.
Thomas was raised in Accokeek, MD around many family and friends and received his education at Saint Mary's Catholic School and in the Prince George's County School system; graduating from Friendly High School.
Thomas had a long career in the restaurant field holding numerous chef positions. He started his first job working at the B&J Carryout in Accokeek, MD making those famous "Subs" from there he was employed by Red Lobster Restaurant in Marlow Heights, MD and later transitioned to the Four Seasons Hotel as an Sous-Chef in Washington, DC. His most accomplished and prized position was working as a chef for the Congressional Restaurant of Capital Hill in Washington, DC. It was from there he retired after having the opportunity to meet and greet many Congressional leaders.
His passion was cooking and he loved baking desserts and preparing foods of all types for various events such as Birthday celebrations, Wedding's and most of all the Middleton, Ford and Clagett Family Reunion. Thomas always brought joy to every event as he was extremely sociable and a delight to others while preparing food for various events. Thomas was definitely a culinary genius.
Thomas was a self – starter and loved doing things his way. He sought joy and fun in everything he did. He will be most remembered for his cooking skills and his vibrant personality. His favorite pastime was watching "Wheel of Fortune" and spending his free time with numerous family and friends. Thomas lived his life to the fullest with no grass growing under his feet "unstoppable" and was always the life of every event!!!
Thomas leaves to cherish his memories, his sister Ann E. Newman (Milton), two brothers Anthony (Jerri) and Patrick (Desiree) Lewis; three nieces Krystle Johnson (Jerron), Brittany and Jenelle Lewis; nephew Keith I. Newman; devoted friend Calvin. Aunts Mary Branson, Helen (Patsy) Clagett, Theresa Fox, Veronica Graham (James), Margaret Harris, Estelle Holmes, Mary Ann Young (Conrad), Uncles: Charles "Butch" Clagett (Theresa), Henry Lewis (Van Dyke) and a host of friends and relatives.
Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Lewis and Elizabeth C. Lewis-Davis; two brothers James C. Lewis (Chink) and George J. Lewis; grandparents Joseph and Edna Clagett; Alfred and Dorothy Lewis; two nephews Terrell J. Lewis and DeWayne I. Newman; Aunts Adell Avent, Edna Mae Brown, Blanche Campbell, Uncles; Anthony Clagett, Joseph Clagett, Harold (Vernon) Lewis, John F. Lewis, and Joseph M. Lewis.
His viewing will be held from 10:00 am until time of service 11:00am, Tuesday, February 9, 2021, Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., Indian Head, Maryland. Interment St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland.
