Obituary

THOMAS LEON GILLUM, JR., AGE 73, OF WASHINGTON, D.C.

Thomas Leon Gillum, Jr. "Tommy" was born March 28,1948 in Washington, DC to Thomas L. Gillum Sr. and Margaret.  He was one of seven siblings.

He met the love of his life Carolyn Theresa Moore, who then became Carolyn Theresa Gillum after they married on April 4,1968.  From this union, they had three daughters and one son, Donna Gillum, Angela Gillum Bowman (Angie), Thomas Gillum, III (T.C) and Carolyn Gillum (Sundae).

He taught his kids how to be independent and to always have a side hustle. He taught them to always look out for one another, speak up and stand up for themselves.

Thomas has worked as a maintenance worker, ice cream truck owner, Washington Post distributor 1301 and bus attendant.  The one job that he loved most was being a Washington Post Distributor.  While serving as a self-employed distributor, he won awards, employed others, and met many people.  He took great pride in helping and serving others. He loved his community and it loved him back.

His heart was truly genuine.  He inspired many others to establish businesses of their own, especially his children.  A few of his nephews have said that "If it had not been for Uncle Tommy, I wouldn't have started my business."  He taught me how to "hustle".

Thomas Gillum was a hard worker, a husband, a father, and a man of wisdom. He loved family.  He loved humor.  He loved his music.  He loved God.  He loved people.

He leaves to mourn and cherish his memories, his other half, best friend, soul mate and wife of 53 years, Carolyn; c hildren, Donna Gillum, Angela (Angie) Gillum Bowman (Anthony), Thomas (T.C) Gillum III (Kim), Carolyn (Sundae) Gillum, grandchildren, Jasmine (deceased), India, Keiyana, Angelo, Khya, Theresa, Takayla, Aiden, g reat granddaughter, Aaliyah, b rothers, Michael Gillum-Deceased (Dorothy), Reginald Gillum (Carolyn), s isters, Gwendolyn Hopkins (Len), Patricia Pointer (William), Deborah Gillum, Denise Gillum (Joe), Aunt (Mildred Coates) brothers-in Law, Jerome (Pete) Moore (Yvette), sister-in law, Billy Marie Smith (deceased), Jane Richardson (Gregory), nephews, nieces, and cousins.

He will be truly missed.
