IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas Ralph
Dyson
February 2, 1940 – January 6, 2018
Thomas Ralph Dyson, 77 of Pomfret, Maryland
On Saturday, January 6, 2018 at George Washington University Hospital, our Lord and Savior called our beloved, Brother Thomas "Dickie" Ralph Dyson home to rest. "Dickie" gave his life to the Lord at an early age. His unconditional love for the Lord lead him to Scotland A.M.E. Zion Church in Rockville, Maryland. After serving there for many years, he then transferred to Metropolitan United Methodist Church in early 2000's were he was a faithful member of the A.C. Kane Choir and Usher Board.
"Dickie" was born on February 2, 1940 in Washington, D.C. to the late Thomas Roland and Catherine Lucille Dyson. He was educated in Washington, D.C. and attended Spingarn High School where he joined the VFS Frat Brothers.
On November 26, 1960, he married Joan A. Dove and raised their one son Eric Dyson. If you knew "Dickie", he is very well known for the love he had for his wife. He would express his love to her every day and how thankful he was to have her which lead to 57 loving years of marriage.
"Dickie" began his employment at the age of nine years old delivering newspapers in the District of Columbia. He continued his employment as a forklift operator at Holiday Tyler for 18 years receiving many awards and special recognition for his hard work and dedication. While working at Holiday Tyler, he also became a member of Teamster Local Union 730. In 2003, he started his own business known as Dyson's Landscaping which he continued until 2014.
"Dickie" loved going to church, family cookouts, the Washington Redskins and especially hand dancing. "Dickie" (the Fred Astaire of dancing) won several hand dance competitions throughout his life. He was so good at dancing he could spin two women around at the same time and never lose a beat. Dickie also enjoyed riding motorcycles. He was a member of Earth Wheels and Fire and Family on Wheels Motorcycle Clubs. His other love was for children. In 1989, "Dickie" or better known to his children as (Poppy) and his wife entered into the foster care program, loving and caring for over 25 children as if they were their own. It didn't matter who, all were welcomed into their home with open arms. He taught them the real meaning of unconditional love.
"Dickie" is survived by his loving wife Joan Dyson, one son Eric Dyson, sister Jean Dyson-King and brother Leon (Butch) Dyson; 8 grand-children, 1 grandson-in-law, 7 great-grandchildren, 8 sister-in-laws, 5 brother-in-laws, a special cousin Ronald McKay, two special friends Robert (Bobbie) White and Ellis Dyson, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
