Obituary

Thelma Phebe Johnson "Sis" (Age 82) of La Plata, Maryland.

On Friday, June 23, 2017 a precious soul peacefully entered into eternal rest. Thelma Phebe Johnson, affectionately known to many as "SIS", was born to the late Samuel C. Johnson and Annie Ross Johnson on January 22, 1935, in Grayton, Maryland.

Sis was baptized at an early age and was a faithful member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.  She was an active member of the choir where she loved marching in the procession until her health began to fail.  Sis loved her church family and the members spoiled her, especially her riding partners Girly, Ernestine and Kathy.

Sis attended schools in Charles County, Maryland.  She was employed at Eagle Maintenance at NSWC, Indian Head, Maryland.  She retired in 1992.

Sis had a very close-knit family whom she loved dearly.  Family gatherings would often be held at her home.  Everyone was always welcomed to stop by to visit.  Sis loved to travel and kept her suitcase packed and ready at all times.  She had a passion for shopping and was always dressed to kill.  She also loved to dance and would often be the last one on the dance floor.  She even shook a leg at her eightieth birthday party.  Sis truly lived her life to the fullest.  She had many friends and showed herself friendly.  She loved to cut up with everyone, the young and the old.    Her favorite hobby without a doubt was BINGO!

In addition to her parents, Sis was preceded in death by six brothers, Russell, Jefferson, Herman, Jerome, Shelton and James Johnson; four sisters, Maude, Lyla, Estelle and Betty; and two sons, Bennett Swann and Spencer Johnson.

Sis leaves a legacy of love that will long be remembered.  She leaves to cherish her memory, one brother, Floyd Johnson; two sisters, Evelyn Keys and Gloria Washington; nine children, Larry Swann (Carolyn), Lester Swann (Renee), Timothy Swann (Rhonda), Tracy Lowe (Tony), Sonya Simpson (Robert) Patrick Johnson (Stacey), Rita Wallace (Andre), Craig Johnson (Crystal) and Shaquon Hagans (Kisha);  16 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great great-grandchild; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, church family and friends.  A special thanks to John and Irene Bond.  Sis was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
