Profile of Life
Shirley Mae Strother-Holt, born on April 28, 1935, went to rest after an evening with friends on Saturday, October 25, 2014 in Newark, New Jersey.
Shirley was the only child of the late Mildred Lewis. She was raised with a loving hand and a strong faith.
Shirley was educated in the District of Columbia public school system. She met her husband Wayne, June 5, 1969. The courtship was fast and they built a lasting and loving relationship.
Shirley never saw a stranger. Everyone was welcomed. She enjoyed socializing. She also loved the Redskins, playing cards and cooking. Her greens were legendary and the star of every meal.
She was passionate and spoke her mind—never shying away from any subject. Her laughter came from some deep joyous place and filled the moment. She was always immaculate. Her hair and nails always done and her clothes were stylish and perfect for the occasion.
She loved fully and that love was returned to her by her devoted husband, Wayne Maurice Holt, three sisters-in-law; Audrey, Judy and Yvette, children that she made a part of her family; Theresa, Robin and Terrell and a host of family and friends.
Passage
I fought the good fight with you beside me.
I loved, laughed, danced, sang and cried.
Through it all, I have kept the faith with you beside me.
I leave all that I can behind me and take nothing but your love.
I have made it to peaceful rest because you were beside me.
