IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ann
Myers
October 28, 1961 – September 23, 2022
Shirley Ann Myers, 60, of Accokeek, Maryland
Shirley Ann Myers was born in Richmond, VA on October 28, 1961, to Geraldine Myers and the late Henry Lee Myers Sr. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donzell McKinley Myers.
Shirley accepted the Lord Jesus Christ at an early age. She completed public school in Caroline County, VA. After graduation, she began her Federal employment at the Dahlgren Naval Base in Dahlgren, VA. Shortly thereafter, she moved to Maryland where she attended George Mason University while continuing to work for the Federal government. Shirley worked for the Department of Navy and the Department of Defense where she earned many awards, certificates, and accolades. In 2017, Shirley retired as a Deputy Director of Security with the Social Security Administration with 36 years of Government service.
Shirley was determined to obtain her degree, so she attended Nyack College, Nyack, New York where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree with distinction and graduated with honors. Cambridge Who's Who recognized Shirley as an honored lifetime member for Executives and Professionals and Entrepreneurs 2008-2009 edition. Also, while working and attending college, Shirley became a licensed Realtor with Long and Foster Realty for approximately 15 years, where she earned the title of Top Sales Agent for several years in a row.
At the age of 12 years old, Shirley was baptized and became a member of the Shiloh Baptist Church in Bowling Green, VA. Although she relocated to Maryland and began attending Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in Fort Washington, she continued to remain dedicated to Shiloh. Shirley later joined Ebenezer in 1991 and became a member of the choir under the leadership of Reverend Charles Robinson and a member of the Usher Board where she was elected as an Officer and Co-Chaplain. Because of her dedication, faithful service and leadership skills, she was chosen by Reverend Jo Ann Browning to serve as a Co-Chair for the Women's Retreat for several years. Shirley remained a dedicated member until her health began to fail.
Prior to Shirley's failing health, she was in training to become an ordained minister at the Prince of Peace Community Church and Healing Center under the leadership of Pastor Emeritus Michele Balamani-Silvera. As an associate member, Shirley served as the first to lead the Prayer Ministry, served on the first Board of Directors and was a member of the Prince of Peace Queens Book club. Shirley was always ready and anointed to pray powerful prayers for Sunday Services and special programs.
Shirley was an avid reader of the Bible and many other books. She loved to travel and spend time with family and friends for birthdays, holidays, and other family events. She had a gentle, compassionate, kind spirit, never hesitating to help anyone in need. Although her family called her bossy, she was known as a saint on earth to family and friends.
On Friday, September 23, 2022 at INOVA Alexandria Hospital, Shirley Myers peacefully transitioned to eternal rest.
