IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Shirley Ann
Moore
November 8, 1941 – March 13, 2020
Moore, Shirley Ann (Age 78) of Waldorf, Maryland
Shirley Ann Moore, the daughter of the late Lacey Monroe Coble and Mittie Lucinda Coble, was born November 8, 1941 in Asheboro, North Carolina.
As a child she attended Randolph County public schools in North Carolina. In 1950, Shirley and her family moved to Washington DC. She attended Cardoza High School and ran for Miss Cardoza before graduating in 1959. She married her former husband, Wilbur Hue Moore and to this union two children were born; Sherrie Moore Phelps and Lisa Moore.
Shirley started her career with the Federal Government, at the Department of the Treasury in 1967 as a keypunch operator. She was eventually promoted to the "Document Branch" {her work family for many years). As the mission of the agency changed, Shirley decided to make changes in her life. She decided to continue her education by enrolling at the Department of Agriculture's U.S. Graduate School. Her goal was to become an accountant. She completed her required courses at Prince Georges Community College. She reached her goal and was promoted to a position as an "Accountant". She held this position until she retired after 37 years in January, 2004.
Shirley was a proud member of AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) where she served diligently for over 46 years. Shirley was very active and served in various positions, groups and committees. She was very passionate in her role of assisting women in need, especially her efforts in assuring speakers for the Old Timers Group meetings, to name a few. She loved this organization and they loved her. We all knew that this was her extended family and we embraced it with love.
Shirley was a strong believer in God; she accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Ebenezer AME Church in Fort Washington, Maryland. She loved praise and worship, she loved her church and she enjoyed attending services with her family.
Shirley was the matriarch of her family and loved them a great deal and they loved her even more. She enjoyed family gatherings especially during the holidays. She enjoyed life to the fullest and spread happiness to others with her warm personality and contagious smile. She met no strangers and encountered no enemies. She loved to travel and never missed an opportunity to jump in the car and go on a good road trip. She took annual trips to Massasutten where she enjoyed relaxing and taking in all the beautiful scenery. Her favorite slogan was "This is Living".
Shirley was preceded in death by her Mother, Mittie Lucinda Foxx Coble and her Father, Lacey Monroe Coble, three brothers, the late Monroe (Bob) Coble, the late James Coble and the late Melvin Coble.
Shirley leaves to cherish her memory; two daughters, Sherrie Moore Phelps (Larry) Accokeek, Md and Lisa Moore, Fort Washington, Md. One sister, Otellia Jones, Bryans Road, Md. Three grand-children; Ashley Janai Phelps, Bradenton, Fla, Keisha Sharai Mercurius (Winston) Fort Washington, Md, and Jasmine Chanel Byrd, Waldorf, Md. Two great-grandchildren; Makhi Shamar Epps and Ava Rai Mercurius, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
