Shelley Ann Johnson

Nov 7, 1952 — Jun 26, 2026

Oxon Hill, MD

Shelley Ann Johnson, 73 of Oxon Hill, Maryland, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving children and grandchildren.

Born on November 7, 1952, in Washington, D.C., Shelley was the daughter of the late Overton Holmes and Virginia (Johnson) Holmes. She spent her early childhood and began her education in King and Queen County, Virginia, before relocating to Charles County, Maryland, in 1968 with her beloved late Aunt Maude, Uncle William (Billy) and special cousins William D., Grayland C., James B., and the late Alan D. King. Shelley graduated from Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland, in 1971 where she met one her closest friends, Patricia (Patsy) Hale.

Shortly after graduation, Shelley began an extraordinary career with the Federal Government in June 1971. Over the course of four decades, she earned numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her outstanding performance, professionalism, and unwavering dedication to public service. She began her career at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., later serving as a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Specialist at the Washington Navy Yard. In 2003, Shelley joined the U.S. Department of the Army, The Adjutant General Directorate (TAG-D), as a Management Analyst. She ultimately retired in 2011 after 40 years of exemplary federal service.

While Shelley was deeply respected for her professional accomplishments, those who knew her best will remember her for her warm smile, welcoming spirits, remarkable work ethic, and genuine kindness. She was trusted colleague, loyal friend, and compassionate mentor who positive influence extended far beyond the workplace.

Shelley was formerly married to the late Arnold Charles Johnson. Shelley was blessed with one son and two daughters, who remained the center of her life.

Nothing brought Shelley greater joy than spending time with her family. Whether celebrating holidays, special occasions, or simply enjoying everyday moments, she cherished every opportunity to be with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter. Family and friends often joked that if Shelley wasn't at home, there was a good chance she could be found at her favorite Giant grocery store. Her love for people, warm personality, and caring heart made her a cherished friend to many. She welcomed others without judgment and treated everyone she met with kindness, compassion and respect.

Shelley's legacy is one of love, generosity, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends. She will be remembered for her caring spirit, quiet strength, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know and love her.

Shelley was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Pugh. Shelley leaves to cherish her memory her children, Anthony Holmes, Angela Holmes, and Andrea Johnson; her grandchildren, Darius Holmes, Lauren Johnson, and Christian Evans; her great-granddaughter, Mia Johnson; and a host of extended family members, dear friends, and loved ones who will miss her deeply.
