Obituary

Sheila M. Goode was born on March 18, 1966, the oldest of two children born to the late Dr. Philip William Goode Jr. and Sue L. Goode in Washington, DC. Sheila grew up in Prince George's County, Maryland where she attended Surrattsville Senior High School. While attending Surrattsville Sr. High, Sheila studied French and had the opportunity to travel abroad to Paris, France with her French class. In 1990, Sheila graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Towson State University.

Upon graduating, Sheila began her government service, in December 1991, by securing a position with the U. S. State Department, where she served for over 27 years as a Public Affairs Specialist within the Bureau of Public Affairs. During her tenure with the State Department, Sheila received a "Special Acts" award, numerous "Meritorious" awards, and several Quality Step Increases for her dedicated service. One of Sheila's proudest moments with the State Department was working the Annual Kennedy Center Honors where she met cultural icons such as Smokey Robinson. Sheila's life was rooted in faith and centered around her love for God and family. Sheila knew Jesus as her Lord and Savior and believed the Bible to be the true Word of life.

Sheila was known as a kind, loving, and caring person who shared a love for animals, especially her beloved Tibetan Spaniel, "Buster". Sheila often enjoyed spending her time laughing and joking with family and friends. During the holidays, she loved baking her famous sweet potato pies, lemon cakes, and sugar cookies to the delight of her loved ones. Sheila also enjoyed singing around the house to R&B music and was an avid fan of the Washington Commanders. Sheila will forever be remembered as "Auntie Sheila" by her beloved nieces and the neighborhood "Big Sister" by all who knew her. Sheila will be sorely missed. Sheila is survived by her brother Philip William Goode, III, sister-inlaw, Candace, two nieces, Ivy and Joi, and a host of loved ones and friends.
