Obituary
Shawn King, Sr., age 38 of Brandywine, MD went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 4, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital Center in Clinton, Maryland.
Shawn was born in Franklin, VA on March 11, 1973. At an early age he joined Shiloh Baptist Church in Boykins, Virginia. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a B.S. degree in Accounting. Shawn was also attending classes to pursue his Master's Degree in Administration from Capella University.
Shawn and Tiffany wed on August 8, 1998, and they bore two boys, Shawn Jr. and Alexander.
After college, Shawn decided to follow his passion for teaching and coaching basketball. He began his career in Emporia, Virginia and later taught in Richmond. In 2003, Shawn joined the La Plata family where he began as a Marketing Teacher and Basketball Coach for the Boys' Jr. Varsity and Varsity teams. Shawn, affectionately known as Coach King (or 'King') to those who knew and loved him, led his team to the first Regional Championship game this year in over 20 years. As the Department Chair for Business Education, Shawn enjoyed the opportunity to help his students grow through mentorship and job experiences. Shawn and his family were members of the Cornerstone Peaceful Bible Baptist Church in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Shawn is survived by his loving wife, Tiffany and their two sons, Shawn Jr. and Alexander, his parents, Adolphus and Effie King, brothers, Terence, Effran, and Aloysius, in-laws, April, Cassandra, and Roy and Mia Cameron, parents-in-law, Milton and Sandra Witherspoon, godmother, Dorsie Smith, 13 aunts, 4 uncles, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many close friends (too many to name).
Viewing, 4:00pm until time of Reflections 6:00pm on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at THORNTON Funeral Home, P.A. , 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland. Funeral Service will be held at 12 noon on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Shiloh Baptist Church in Boykins, Virginia. Interment, Church Cemetery.
