MATTHEWS, SHARON DELORIS (AGE 66) OF SPRINGDALE, MARYLAND

Sharon Deloris Matthews was born on June 26, 1956, to the late Thelma D. (Mickey) and George L (Thomas) Matthews in LaPlata, Maryland. She attended LaPlata High School where she played softball, basketball and ran track. She graduated in the Class of 1974.

Sharon worked as a caretaker for several residents in her community, especially children with special needs. She also was employed at the Sheraton Hotel in Washington, D.C., as well as worked alongside her late fiancée Max Gonzalez, in the roofing construction business. Sharon was very family oriented. She looked forward to family gatherings where she would hand dance with loved ones. She enjoyed puzzle books, watching sports, (boxing, basketball, and football) and watching her 'stories' (The Young and the Restless, Bold and the Beautiful and General Hospital) with her sister Linda. Sharon never missed a daily conversation with her brother Barry and enjoyed watching YouTube videos with her granddaughter Nova. Sharon also enjoyed visits with her best friend Mary and hanging with her very close cousin, Eric Lee Sr. She spent her last nine years in the care of her youngest daughter Shannon, and her family. Being there with her grandkids filled her heart.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents Thelma "Mickey" and George "Thomas" Matthews; husband Gary Mohler; sister Philis "Matthews" Posey, and her fiancée Max Gonzalez.

To cherish precious memories are her three daughters: Stephanie (Steven) Bannister, Shavon (Marcus) Taylor and Shannon (Andre) Christian; eight grandchildren: Stephon, Glenn (aka Tre), Travonna, Steven, Devonte, Zafia, Marcus and Nova; great-grandchildren: Amila, Santino and the one on the way; her siblings: Linda (Marshall) Thompson, Cynthia (George) Ransome, Barry Matthews, Darlette Smith, Geraldine (Haskell) Campbell, Charlene (Lloyd) Jupiter and Terrence (Lashawne) Matthews; brother-in-law Glenn Posey, Sr.; nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and other relatives and friends.

Her viewing will be held from 9:00am until time of service 10:30am in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland.
