Obituary
Shantel Monique Bright affectionately known as Telly, the daughter of the late Alice Maureen (Bush) Baruwa and Dean Bright was born on May 3, 1985 in Cheverly, MD.
Shantel attended Virginia Beach City Public Schools and Prince George's County Public Schools where she ultimately graduated from Crossland High School. After high school Shantel pursued a degree in Graphic Design at Gibbs College in McLean, VA.
Shantel was a very caring person. Throughout her lifetime she maintained multiple jobs in security. Her most recent job in security was at Fort Meade Base where she maintained several different job titles during her tenure with the company.
Shantel was a very creative person. She greatly enjoyed graphic design as well as planning events, and creating visuals. She was an avid Disney lover and she had a special love for her favorite characters Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse. She was apart of St. Thomas More youth choir and youth group. Shantel loved continuing her mother's tradition of having annual ladies night with the ladies in her family. Sitting around the table and playing cards with her cousins regularly was another one of Shantel's favorite pastimes. Shantel made it her business to get out and travel, in fact during her travels to Jamaica she met her fiance' Vincent. Shantel and Vincent had a whirlwind romance and were set to marry June 20, 2020 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Above all things her nieces Altovese and Kaidyn meant the world to her. She enjoyed all the time she spent with them after school and on weekends.
Suddenly, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 Shantel transitioned to eternal life. In addition to her mom, Alice and her brother, Kandeh Jr., Shantel is preceded in death by her grandparents, Mary Virginia (Curtis) Bush and Arthur E. Bush Sr., John Bright and Charlotte Bright; aunts, Betty Marie Bush, Julia Lucile Bush-Farris (Marc), and Alice Barnes; uncles, Melvin Bright Sr., Johnson Bright, and a host of other relatives.
She leaves to cherish special memories her Father: Dean Bright(Susan ); Stepfather Larry Baruwa; Godparents: Triphinea (Tiny) Franklin, Cynthia Coates and Lawrence Gross; Godchildren: Harmony Bush, Santana Rich, Kaidyn Turay, and Janiyah Kamara; Aunts: Annette Hebb (Quintin), Flora Gantt, and Tina Marshall (Dennis), Sarah Brown, Cynthia Coates (Edward); Uncles: Tony Bush Sr. (Felicia) James Bright Sr., Franklin Bright, Howard Bright Sr. (Loretta), Don Bright, Mark Bright (Renee) and Best-friends, Tasha Diggs, Tyrone Watkins, Camille Demus and a host of cousins, family and friends.
Viewing, 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2020 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland.
Private Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, May 2, 2020 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Washington, D.C.
Private Interment, Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, Maryland.
