Sandra Teresa Johnson, age 77 of Indian Head, Maryland

Sandra Johnson was born on February 29, 1948 in LaPlata, MD (by a midwife) to Robert and Annie Thompson.  A proud graduate of Pomonkey High School in 1966, Sandra retired from a career with the Indian Head Base Naval Ordinance Station and Home Health Care.

Sandra was a feisty, sassy, lovable woman whose outspoken nature, quick wit, and take-no-nonsense attitude made her unforgettable to everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. She embraced life with a strength and honesty that inspired those around her, always reminding others to never give up, work hard, and speak your mind.  Sandra grew up enjoying simple joys - dancing, laughing, and spending time with friends.  Influenced most deeply by her mother and family, she carried that same lively spirit throughout her life establishing her bold and beautiful identity.

A woman of many interests, Sandra savored all things that brought her joy: lively bingo nights, card parties, cookouts, bowling with the Waldorf Bowling League, good books, Westerns, cheering on the Redskins, watching Madea, and indulging in crabs and shrimp. She loved yard sales, watching court cases, and dancing whenever the moment called for it. St. Mary Star of the Sea held a special place in her heart, as did any gathering that brought family together.  Above all, Sandra's greatest happiness came from time spent with her grandkids and great-grandkids. She was passionate about caring for them, cheering for them, and proudly celebrating every milestone in their lives. They were her biggest source of pride, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

Sandra will be remembered for her fierce loyalty and fearless honesty. She didn't take mess from anyone, and she wasn't afraid to say exactly what was on her mind - often with humor, always with heart. Whether she was declaring, "It's my mouth and I'll haul fuel oil if I want to!" or standing up for the people she loved, she lived authentically and unapologetically.  In her later years, she found comfort in quiet pleasures, enjoying time with her family, and soaking in the warmth of the people who mattered most. Sandra leaves behind a legacy of strength, love, humor, and resilience. Her spirit lives on in the family she adored, the friends she cherished, and all those who will forever remember her feisty/sassy charm and unwavering heart.

Preceded in death by her husband James Sr.; son Charles "Ricky"; family members Elizabeth; Glenda; Carl, Aaron, Francis "Freddy", Curtis; Carlos; and special friend Mary Ann Queen.

Sandra remains in the hearts of her children - Carl, Christopher, Corey (Candi), and Lashawn (Shamia); sister Theresa and brother George "Philistine"; sisters-in-law Gloria and Betty;  grandchildren Ceairra, Adrian, Shameka, Anthony, LaCretia, Carl Jr. "Omari", TyRanda, Cierra, Courtney, Chanté, Cornesha "Malik", Cherish, Deshawn, and Zin; great grandchildren - Courtney, Carmen, Camron, Makayla, Alyssa, Ari, Omareon, Lotus, Aniya, Aolani, Malik Jr., Jayden, Amaya, Kali, Kaiden, Kaylnn, Ca'Lyah, Arya, Arian, Christian, Destiny, Harmony, Armani, Dimeji; great great grandchild, Kaicen, and a host of aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews and special friends Mary Blyers, Jannetta Harris, and Augustine Briscoe.

Her Viewing will be 10:00 am until time of Service, 11:00 am, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.

Interment, St. Charles Cemetery, Strauss Avenue, Glymont, Maryland.
