IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sandra Malbuen
Brown
December 3, 1945 – August 3, 2018
On Friday, August 3, 2018, the thunderstorm stopped and the sun began to shine. Surrounded by her siblings, daughter, grand and great granddaughters, she peacefully exchanged this life for eternity with Jesus!
The sixth of eleven children, Sandra Malbuen "Malberine" Garlic was born to the late Robert N. Garlic, Sr. and Mary E. Garlic of Washington, D.C. She received her education from John J. Wright School (Spotsylvania County, VA) graduating in 1964. In July 1965, she married Michael E. Brown and from this union one daughter, Michelle Denise, was born.
After receiving her secretarial certificate from Smith Business School (Washington, DC), Sandra began working as a clerk typist at the U.S. Census Bureau, in Suitland, MD in 1979. While at the Bureau, "Sandy" developed many close friendships. She is lovingly remembered as a dedicated employee, and for her smile, laughter, and kind words. Although retirement was well within her reach, she absolutely refused to sit at home doing nothing. Besides, she was a part of the Wednesday crochet group! With 40 years of service, and after receiving several cash awards and meritorious promotions, at the time of her transition she was in full pay status as a Statistical Assistant.
Sandra professed Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, at an early age and she was secure in her relationship with Christ. In spite of whatever, her love for and faith in Him never wavered. She was a faithful and active member of Southern Baptist Church before reuniting with Christian Fellowships where she continued in selfless service. Every July she began packing for Convention. One of her favorite months of the year was August as she excitedly looked forward to spending five days in the country with her Christian Fellowship family! Her co-workers couldn't wait for her to return to work because she always had convention stories to tell!
Sandra was always willing to help and eager to cook a dish or bake a cake! She loved testing new recipes on her sisters when they gathered for Sister's Day, and she was notorious for delicious yeast rolls and pound cake that were "must haves" at family events! Affectionately known as "Muffy" or "Friend" by the Sisters; her granddaughters and their friends loved her as "Mimi". Whether family or friend, Momma loved to serve or help in some way!
Preceded in death by her siblings Theodore, George, and Jacqueline, and brother in love Arthur Lee Jones, Sr. she leaves to cherish her memory: her former husband and friend for life, Michael Brown; her daughter and son-in-love Michelle and Eugene Turner; granddaughters Lydia, Lynda, LyAna, and Lynora Melton, and Komiko Turner; one great granddaughter Zion Melton; brothers, Robert Garlic, Jr. and Richard Garlic (Joann); sisters, Gloria Easter, Carol Williams, Barbara Stafford, Bessie Jones, and Doreen Brown (Mark); a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends; and, of course, her precious cats Nickles, Penny, and Reesie.
