Obituary

MARSHALL, SAM, JR. (AGE 74) OF OXON HILL, MARYLAND.

On March 10, 1937, in Columbus, Georgia, Sam Marshall, Jr. was born to the late Daisy Lockhart
Marshall and the late Sam Marshall, Sr. It was the
beginning of seventy-four years of life until the late morning of September 21, 2011, at the Manor Care Nursing Home in Largo, Maryland, when Sam was quietly called home.

Sam attended Greater Shady Grove Baptist Church and was educated in the public schools of Columbus, Georgia. After graduating from High School, he entered the United States Army on November 30, 1953. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged on November 12, 1955.

Sam was employed by the United States Department of Transportation in Washington, D.C. where he was a devoted employee and retired after 30 years of service working in the Administrative Field.

Sam was very proud of his family, especially his son, Thomas. He was also proud of his granddaughter, Tyaunna and her skills on the basketball court at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, Georgia; you could see the smile on his face when speaking of her. All of his grandchildren and great grandchildren were special to him, each in their own way. Nieces and nephews will miss him, especially when the time comes to acknowledge special events as he was always on the list to send an invitation.

Sam was a car enthusiast, with a special love for the old Chevrolet Camaro. He also enjoyed oldies but goodies music, especially the sounds of Earth, Wind and Fire; but most of all, he treasured his time with old friends and good buddies, playing cards and "shooting the breeze."

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Jerome Marshall and sisters, Susie Ford and Glenda Jenkins.

Left to cherish his memories are: his son, Thomas R. Marshall and his wife, Kimberly Marshall; grandchildren, Tyrelle Henderson, Michelle Sturgis (Andre), Tyaunna Marshall and Taylor Marshall, great grandchildren, Kaleb Patterson, Donavan Sturgis, DeShawn Sturgis and DeAndre Sturgis, sisters, Clara Roundtree, Daisy Hunter, Mary Noland, Helen Davis, Nora O'Neal and Brenda Marshall, brother, Caesar Marshall and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held from 11:00am until time of Service, 12:00 noon on Thursday, September 29, 2011 at the Life Church, 6707 Woodyard Road, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, Maryland. Arrangements entrusted to Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland.
