IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ruth
Sawyer
January 27, 1926 – October 26, 2017
Ruth Jones Sawyer was born in Washington, D.C. on January 27, 1926 to the late Herbert and Effie Jones. The parents moved from, Goldsboro, North Carolina to Washington, D.C. She was the youngest of her nine siblings. Grace and Hatten Watts were foster parents to Ruth, they were caring parents and showed lots of love. Ruth attended D.C. public schools, graduating from Armstrong High School.
Ruth was employed by the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland as a Statistical Clerk and the Navy Yard, holding the same title. Ruth married Charles L. Sawyer. Although she had no children, she had a host of children who called her, Grandma, Auntie, Godmother and Mother.
Ruth, was an active member of a senior social group in Virginia which was involved in crafts, quilting, making dolls and other beautiful artifacts. Ruth was a collector of greeting cards, she was very particular about the cards, always making sure you had the most beautiful. She had a dear friend, Doris Henderson, the two were hooked to the hips, another close friend during childhood was Mark James, he and his wife Julia were very fond of Ruth.
Ruth had numerous family and friends who loved her and will miss her dearly. The ones to be given a token of appreciation are, Lois Powell, who cared for her during her difficult time before her demise, showing love and patience, the Amedisys Healthcare and all of her family and friends in the DMV.
Ruth was given the life and family she always wanted. Her niece, Gwendolyn Bell, cared for her as if Ruth were her own mother, showing love, patience and understanding her battle with dementia.
Thank you Grace United Methodist Church, who would give her communion and just talk with her. Thanks goes out to Pastor Brenda Clarke, Minister Kathy Kennedy and all of Lomax' members and her Social Group for your cards and calls. God Bless you all.
