Obituary
Ruth Ann Cobb was born in Washington D.C. on August 3, 1933 and went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at 86 years old at 1:30 pm in Providence Hospital, Washington, DC. She was born to the late John Willie Parks and the late Channie Mae (Hinnant) Parks in Washington, DC. Ruth Cobb leaves one brother, Warren L. Parks, two sisters Helena Best and Charron Tann, along with one brother-in-law, Alvin Tann and one sister-in-law, Mary Parks.
Ruth Cobb graduated from Dunbar High School in Washington, DC in 1950. As a youth, Ruth and her sister Helena raised their brother Warren while their mother was working to help care for the family. Ruth and her siblings grew up in the lower half of Northwest, Washington, DC on Warner Street with their parents in a Christian Household. Ruth Ann Cobb was raised during her childhood to adulthood at Greater New Hope Baptist Church, Washington DC as a Deaconess and later went on to serve her final years at New Macedonia Baptist Church, Washington, DC on the deaconess board.
Ruth A. Cobb worked as a federal employee at the National Institute of Health, along with her other family members, including siblings, from 1957-1965. She also worked for DC Public school system and the United States Justice Department, where she retired. Ruth Cobb loved cooking, baking, reading, traveling with her family, singing in the church choir, serving as a deaconess and doing word search puzzles while serving the Lord daily.
Ruth A. Cobb married Floyd Cobb, Sr. in Washington, DC on May 19, 1951. During their marriage, Floyd and Ruth Cobb had six children, the late Stephen Cobb, Gina Cobb-Martinez, Arnett Cobb, Floyd Cobb, Jr., Aminese Cobb-Daise and Demetrius Cobb. Years later, after the passing of her first husband, Ruth A. Cobb was re-married to the late Joseph Ward until his passing in 2007.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, brother, John Parks, son, Stephen Cobb and daughter-in-law, Frances Cobb.
She leaves to cherish precious memories, daughters, Aminese Cobb-Daise (Stanley) and Gina Cobb-Martinez (Samuel), sons, Arnett, Floyd, Jr., and Demetrius Cobb, 13 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
