Mrs. Ruth Eleine (Brooks) Miles was born October 3, 1931 in Hagerstown, Maryland to the late Mary Virginia (Keyes) Daniels. She entered into heavenly rest on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton, Maryland.
She relocated to Washington, D.C. and graduated from Gennie Dean Industrial School, Manassas, VA and participated in various team sports, the Choral Group and the Dramatic Club. She was trained as a cosmetologist at Martha Washington Vocational School, Washington, DC.
On November 7, 1954, she joined in holy matrimony to the late William Leon (Billy) Miles and enjoyed 29 years of blissful happiness. From this union two daughters, Pamela Joy and Madge Denise Miles were affectionately reared. The family enjoyed many outings such as bowling, vacationing, movie night, amusement parks and museums.
As a loving care giver for infants to age 5 and homemaker, the children called her "Aunt Bunny." She disciplined and nurtured them with lots of love and care and even today many remember her tender kindness toward them.
Bunny joined the Brookland Union Baptist Church and became an active member of several church choirs serving as President and music department organizer. Her melodious soprano voice was enjoyed by the members and friends where she was often asked to sing "His Eye Is on the Sparrow." She participated in various church activities such as the Women's Day Committee, 50th Anniversary Committee, and October Club and was selected as the 1984 Woman of Year. She was well known in the kitchen for making her sweet potato pies, mac & cheese casseroles and other tasty dishes. She was a dedicated servant of the Lord who eagerly worked for the growth of the church from the little house in 1945 to the current sanctuary.
Bunny was employed at Garfinckel's Department Store and KPMG/Peat Marwick Accounting Firm where she retired. In her retirement, she spent quality time with her granddaughter, Gabrielle Imani. She loved taking her to meet the school bus, visits to the parks and other indoor and outdoor fun activities.
In spite of some of her health challenges, she continued to remain steadfast in the service of the Lord. God has a special place in His kingdom for her voice, talent and love for His children.
She leaves to cherish her memories, devoted daughters, Pamela Joy and Madge Denise, granddaughter Gabrielle Imani, one brother-in-law, Stanley B. Miles, Jr. (Doris) sister-in-law, Julia Carroll (Harry, deceased), long time friend, Carolyn Fann and many loving and caring family members and friends.
