Bishop, Ruth, 84, of Oxon Hill, Maryland.
On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, Ruth Bishop quietly entered eternal rest at United Medical Center, Washington, DC. She was born on November 14, 1931 in Lenoir County, North Carolina to the late James Henry and Sarah Outlaw Reavis. Ruth was affectionately called "Baby Ruth" by those who knew her.
Ruth was educated in the District of Columbia Public Schools and graduated from Franklin School.
Ruth met the love of her life, Samuel Curtis Bishop and later married him on December 22, 1957. From this blessed union seven children were born, six sons and one daughter. She was a strong, loving, kind hearted, hardworking, outspoken, loyal, nurturing, patient wife and mother with a gentle spirit. Ruth loved gardening, cooking, going to the beach and traveling. She enjoyed celebrating her family's birthdays and all holidays, especially Christmas. During her free time she liked to relax at home with her husband and children. In her younger years, Ruth enjoyed playing baseball, running and dancing. Ruth will be remembered for her warmth, compassion, outgoing love and keeping family close by.
Ruth was a School Bus Driver for the Prince Georges County School System from February 1980 until September 2009.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her children, David Reavis, Beatrice Swailes, brothers, Leslie and Jesse.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Samuel, sons, LeRoy Swailes, Kenny Reavis, Lionel Bishop, Michael Bishop and Jeffrey Bishop, daughters-in-law, Brenda Reavis, Doris Bishop and Patricia Bishop, brothers-in-law, Frank Lewis (Sandy Byrd) and Leonard Drummond (Harriet), 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
