IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Russell Eugene
Chase
October 7, 1937 – August 6, 2024
Russell Eugene Chase (Age 86) of Indian Head, Maryland
Russell Eugene Chase was born October 7, 1937, to the late James Chase and Pauline Chase (Jackson) in Washington, DC. On Tuesday, August 6, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, Russell transitioned from his earthly life to a life of eternal glory at his place of residence in Pomonkey, Maryland.
Russell accepted the Lord as his personal Savior at a young age. He always loved the Lord and had faith and trust in Him. Even in his last days, he accepted whatever God's will was for him and knew that whatever it was, was what was best for him. This is more than can be said for any of us. His ministry was his family and those who encountered him. The amount of love he had, extended beyond us.
Russell was educated in District of Columbia and Prince George's County Public School systems.
He Joined the military soon after; served in the United States Army 101st Airborne Division and was honorably discharged. Upon his discharge, Russell began working for Harry Goode Construction Company. Later he became employed at the Naval Ordinance Station in Indian Head as an Ordinance Equipment Repairer/Materials Handler, where he retired in 1992 with 32 years of service.
On March 31, 1957, Russell married the love of his life, Rosa Theresa Dyson; and they spent 67 years together making memories. From this union they had 6 children: Karl, Cheryl, Colette, Russell, Terrell and Petrina.
Russell was affectionately known as Dad, Pop, Grandad, Pop-Pop and Mousie. He had a huge family that he loved and adored. He was always concerned about our well-being, and there are countless times he put us before himself. Not only was he active in the lives of his children, but his grands, great and great-great. From sporting events, graduations, marriages, births, birthdays, he was there. He took great pride in showing us how to be great people in this world. Most importantly to have respect ourselves and others. He did not sugar-coat things, and he wasn't for no nonsense. He was a jack-of-all-trades, master of none but he knew how to get things done. He was a plumber, a repair man, a roofer, a builder, a landscaper, a mechanic and he list goes on. I can't forget about master griller. He loved to fire up that pit. No one's ribs will ever compare to his. And he never shared his bbq sauce recipe with anyone. But that's okay because we never needed it anyway. Above all he was The Man—The Greatest of All Time (G.O.A.T)!
Russell was a man who had a love for sports. He wasn't just a spectator, but played baseball with the Pomonkey Browns, Pomonkey Giants, Accokeek Hawks, Chapel Hill Indians and umpired in the Tri-State League. He also served as an umpire for S.M.Y.O (Southern Maryland Youth Organization). And even though he wasn't officially a coach, he acted as such for his grandchildren. He would be at every football game cheering them on and wanting to tell the coaches a thing or two, if he felt they were not calling the right plays. Last, but not least, he was an avid bowler and was part of a bowling league that traveled and competed.
Russell Chase was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Milton, James, Samuel, Harry, William, Leroy, Randolph, Alvin, Raymond, Nathaniel, Paul, John; son, Karl Chase, Sr.; daughter, Cheryl Carroll; grandson, James Chase; goddaughter, Joyce King.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories his wife of 67 years, Rosa Theresa Chase; children, Colette, Russell F. "Freddy" (Cheryl), Terrell "Terri", Petrina "Trina" Chase and Leroy T. King, Jr. (Robin); grandchildren, Cynthia (Dez), Minnette (Shayne), Tanesha, Karl Jr., LaTanja (Antimothy), JeVonte' (Monique), Latrice, Tamia (Richard), Devren, Darryn (Esha), Fredrika; 23 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Barbara Ann Chase; son-in-law Donnell Carroll; sister-in-law Lorraine Dyson; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Extended family Rev. Geoffrey Thomas, Angela Thomas and family.
