On Tuesday, December 13, 2011, Ruhbertha Proctor, affectionately known as "Bert," quietly entered eternal life at the Community Hospice of Washington, D.C. She was the daughter of the late Eva Anderson and the late Charles Anderson. She was born in Washington, D.C. on October 26, 1939.
She was educated in and graduated from the public schools of Washington, D.C. She worked as a meat cutter for many years at A&P grocery store until retiring to the status of housewife.
At the tender age of 14, Bert first met Henry E. Proctor on a hay ride to Rock Creek Park. Years later, they would meet again which led to their marriage on October 12, 1962. Together, they raised their son, Richard Dean, Jr.
Bert was caring and loving but she could be tough when she needed to be. Known to her family as a shopaholic, she also enjoyed sewing and cooking but had a passion for music of all types. She was greatly loved by her family and enjoyed being around them especially at family reunions and family cookouts.
She will be remembered for her words of wisdom and her great strength, in addition to her willingness to help others, especially taking care of her mother.
In addition to her parents she is also preceded in death by her grandson, David Dean; uncles, Carter, Lee and Frank Goodwyn, sisters-in-law, Blanche (Thomas), Hilda (John) and Pat, brothers-in-law, Jacinto, James, Charles, Michael and Leon (Estelle) Proctor.
Left to cherish many fond memories is her husband of 49 years, Henry, son, Richard, grandchildren, Davaughn Dean, Cheryl and Marlin, great grandchildren, Tieshia, Davante, and ZaNaya Dean, Tony and DJ, daughter-in-law, Ruby Dean, sisters, Mary Proctor, Vivan Walls (Richard), and Cleo Brooks (Lewis), sisters-in-law, Mary J. Proctor, Carolyn Newman (Melvin), Rosielee Savoy (Herbert), Pamela Hawkins (Hawk), Karen Proctor (William), Romaine and Catherine, brothers-in-law, Joseph (Faye), Robert, Nase (Grace), God-daughter, Eunice Harrod, speical friends, Elery, Maxine, Steve and Tina, Pierre, Vivian and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Her viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 20th, 6pm until 9pm at Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, MD and on Wednesday, December 21st, 10am until Mass of Christian Burial, 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph's Way, Pomfret, MD 20675. Interment Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD.
