Rudolph Addison Posey Jr., "Powee", 79 of La Plata, Maryland.
Suddenly on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 10:22 pm, Rudolph Addison Posey Jr., "Powee" peacefully transitioned to his eternal resting place with God.
Rudolph Addison Posey Jr., "Powee" is what his family called him, was the second oldest of eleven siblings. Born in Indian Head, Maryland on May 5, 1943, to the late Rudolph A. Posey Sr. and Eva Mary (Simmons) Posey. He was educated in the Charles County School System and graduated from Pomonkey High School. In 1962 he met and married his loving wife Catherine V. (Powell) Posey of 56 years on May 28, 1966, and resided in La Plata, Maryland. He loved and cherished her.
At the age of 16 he started working at Ely's Dept Store, on January 4, 1962, he started his career in the Federal Government beginning at the Naval Ordnance Station, Smithsonian Institute and Andrews Air Force Base as an exterminator where he retired after 35 years of Outstanding Federal Service on December 30, 1997 as a supervisor. On December 11, 1997, on the 89 th Airlift Wing, at the request of Team Andrews a flag was flown for his 35 years of service. After retiring from Andrews, he went to work for the Charles County School System for 16 years as the Building Service Manager retiring June 12, 2008, where he received the Outstanding Service Award in 2002-2003 and Outstanding Personnel Award for Excellence in 2005. In addition to working his full-time jobs he also had his own exterminating business and there was nothing he could not exterminate.
Rudolph "Powee" was an extraordinary man. You would always see him with a smile on his face and whistling a tune. Rudolph was always there with a helping hand or to give good advice to his nieces and nephews or anyone that needed it. After retiring he worked in his yard, planting and trimming trees. You would also find him with a paintbrush in his hand and painting everything that he wanted to change. He was passionate about keeping his car and his Ford truck in immaculate condition. If he saw your car in his driveway and it was dirty, he would say "bring your car over and I'll wash and wax it up for you". He loved spending time with family and friends, loved music and Fats Domino was one of his favorites, he loved to dance, teach, and play poker with his sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Victoria (Posey) Morgan, sisters-in-law, Philis (Matthews) Posey, Helen Mathis, Rose Woodland, Carolyn Green and Bernadette Hampton, brothers-in-law, Edward Mathis, John Hampton, Orlando Drew, Norman Woodland, James Walton, and Charles Ensley.
