Pastor, Elder Roy M. Brown
Pastor, Elder Roy Michael Brown, Jr., was born on August 3, 1951, in Mason Spring, Maryland, to the late Roy M. Brown, Sr. and Marjorie Johnson Brown. He was educated at Lackey High School in Charles County, Maryland and the Washington Baptist Seminary in Washington, DC.
He was married to the love of his life, Elder Violet M. Washington for 49 years. From this union, two children were born—one son, Roy Michael Brown III, and one daughter, Donetta Rochelle Brown.
Known as Mike, Dad, Pop Pop, Roy, Brother, Pastor Mike and Pastor Roy, Elder Roy Brown served many pastoral roles to include Pastor of Manna From On High Ministries in New Jersey; Assistant Pastor of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Maryland; Assistant Pastor of United Gospel Fellowship Ministries in West Germany and Associate Pastor at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Pennsylvania. Pastor Roy was truly a man of God who was always willing to help everybody.
Mike worked for the Department of Defense for 30 years. His dedication to his job did not go unnoticed by his peers nor management. He retired in 2014 as a Department Head in Supply from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst.
Suddenly on Thursday, July 1, 2021 Mike transitioned to eternal life at the Virtua-Memorial Hospital in Mount Holly, New Jersey.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie Johnson Brown, his father, Roy M. Brown, Sr., and his sister, Mary Olivia Brown-Scott.
He leaves to cherish his memories—his wife, Violet; one son, Roy Michael III; one daughter, Donetta; two grandchildren,—LaQuan and Deiondre; five sisters,—Margaret Bivens of Maryland, Betty Moreaux of Georgia, Ethel Holton (Danny) of Maryland, Dianna Brown of Maryland and Theresa Phillips (Donahue) of Virginia, brothers-in-law, Clayton E. Scott, Sr., Dennis Washington, Sr. (Jane), John Washington, Sr., Teddy Washington (Kathy), Chester and William Washington, Jr., sisters-in-law, Cecelia Minor and Hattie Wilson, a special aunt, Ruth Barns and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
Viewing: 6:00pm to 9:00pm, Friday, July 9. 2021, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640 and 12:00pm on Saturday, July 10, 2021, at Israel Total Life Ministries, 64 Industrial Park Drive, Waldorf, Maryland 20602, until time of Celebration of Life, 1:00 p.m.
Interment, 10:30am, Monday July 12, 2021, Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
