IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ronald Joseph
Myers
May 30, 1942 – September 5, 2023
RONALD JOSEPH MYERS, 81, OF JACKSONVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA
Ronald Joseph Myers was born in Bryans Road Maryland on May 30, 1942, to the late Constance C. Myers & Ralph D. Myers. Ronnie, as he was known by loved ones, was one of 14 children. He attended Charles County Public schools and graduated from Pomonkey High school in 1961.
In 1962, Ronnie enlisted in the Air Force, in Biloxi MS. He initially served as a Special Police officer, and then became a Reprographics Technician for 18 years. He went on to Instruct at the Defense Mapping Agency at Ft. Belvoir Army Base. Ronald retired in November 1985, at Bolling AFB and made a home for himself in Ft. Washington MD. During his tenure in the military, he was awarded several decorated medals, badges, citations, and campaign ribbons. After completing his military career Ronald then went on to work for the Securities & Exchange Commission in 1987 as an Offset Press Operator for 20 years, retiring in 2007.
December 22, 2018 he married Jane Covington who was his loving wife and friend until his passing.
Everyone knew Ronnie for his many talents and attributes. He was a" jack of all trades". He was a barber and had a knack for cutting hair. He was also an artist that had an obsession for drawing and painting pictures and portraits.
Ronnie was most passionate about music. He was a self-taught musician from the guitar to the piano, and played in a band called the V-necks in his early years. He loved Fats Domino. As a matter of fact, he played Fats Domino so well that Fats Domino himself couldn't believe it. An interesting story to share is that he once had the opportunity to play one of Fats Domino's songs "Blueberry Hill '' at the Charles County Fair. When Fats Domino and his security told him he was not allowed to be on stage, the crowd got mad because he was amazing. The audience had no idea that he was not part of the show. Fats gave him an autograph, and he went on to eventually being called CC Fats, which stood for Charles County Fats (Domino).
After this experience, he would take advantage of every opportunity that provided him a chance to show off his piano skills and singing talent. You could always find him around a piano. He tried out for the famous APOLLO in NY and came in second place. In his later years he started recording his own songs trying to make a trademark for himself.
To know "Ronnie" was to love him. He was always willing to lend a hand, and he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He saw good in everyone and kept a smile on his face no matter the circumstance. He loved fishing and cooking. Especially one of his favorite foods, pig feet. He also loved to go to Texas Road House for a Medium rare Prime Rib Steak. He loved watching old westerns and his favorite cartoon Charlie Brown. His favorite character was Snoopy.
Family and friends will always cherish the memory of him singing Blueberry Hill. One could not have asked for a better husband, sibling, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, etc. We will miss him every single day but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
Ronnie was preceded in death by seven brothers: Ralph Jr, Fred, Alvin, Lawrence, William (Sonny), Carl, and Gardnell Sr. Two sisters: Evelyn Myers and Inez Hale and his "play son" Ronald Alexander.
