IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert Anderson
Medley, Sr.
May 8, 1946 – March 11, 2023
Robert Anderson Medley, Sr., 76, of Accokeek, Maryland.
Robert Anderson Medley Sr. was born to Frances Albert and Pearl Alberta Medley on May 8, 1946 in Clinton, Maryland.
Robert, better known as "Rob" or "Robbie" to family and "Roach" to friends, began his early education in Clinton Grove Elementary and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1965.
Robert married Jacqueline Marie Swann "Jackie" on March 23, 1968. Throughout their 55-year union, Jackie and Robert welcomed four children, Dawn Rachelle "Shelly" Montgomery, Robert "Junie" Anderson Medley, Jr., Kristopher "Kris" Michael Medley, and Heather Jovan "Joey" Hay. He was a devoted family man and his wife and children were his pride and joy.
Robert and Jackie raised their children in the Catholic faith as members of St. Mary's Star of the Sea.
He was a devoted member of The Gospel Revelations for over 20 years, singing tenor alongside his older brother Teddy and friends.
As a dedicated family man, his inspiration was always his family. He not only cared for his family, but he opened his heart and home to anyone who was in need. Robert served on the board of the Indian Head Preschool and volunteered his time as a football coach with the Allentown Boys & Girls Club. He answered to several titles and was affectionately known as "Dad", "Poppie", "Uncle Pop-Pop", and sometimes "Ralph" to many who knew and loved him.
Robert cherished the special bonds he built with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Whether teaching them how to drive, attending their sporting events or helping them pursue their academic goals, he was committed to supporting them in any way he could. He took pride in helping his family achieve success.
For over 50 years, Robert was a valued member of the Local Teamsters Union 355 as a truck driver. His work ethics always demonstrated dedication and integrity. Despite the long hours and laborious work, you never heard him complain. Because of his devotion and drive, he was awarded Outstanding Driver and Driver of the Year on multiple occasions throughout his career.
Friends and family describe Robert as the life of the party – often seeing him with a microphone in his hand at family reunions, sharing nostalgic memories of his childhood, and serenading the room with gospel and doo-wop classics. People would say, if Robert was there, it was sure to be a good time, as he always was the jokester.
His fondest moments were spent singing, traveling, reminiscing, and nestling up beside his wife, Jackie.
In his later years, he enjoyed nature walks with his grands and great-grands, listening to doo-wop music, playing poker on his tablet, and watching wrestling and other sports. You could often find him doing work around the yard.
God called Robert home on Saturday, March 11, 2023, while at his home in Accokeek, Maryland.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Mary Agnes and Frederick Oscar Kerrick and Gussie Sweetney Medley-Green and step-grandfather Claude Green; parents, Pearl and Frances Medley; brother, Frances "Teddy" Medley Jr.; and sister, Pearl "Penny" Medley.
Left to cherish is his wife Jacqueline; siblings Tim Medley, Arlene Duckett, and Jerry Medley; children, Dawn Montgomery (Kevin), Robert Medley Jr., Kristopher Medley (Sonserray), and Heather Hay (Harrel); grandchildren, Ashlie Medley, Quiana Montgomery, Jabar "Tre" Medley, Na'Keisha "Scooby" Johnson, Madison Medley, Harrel "Deuce" Hay III, Ocean "O" Medley, Hunter "Da-doo" Hay, and Menaka "MinMin" Medley; great grandchildren, Ariana "Boo" Davis, Ashton "Fats" Davis, Avery "A" Peterson, Terrance "Taj" Cary Jr.. and Kailani "KK" Johnson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other family and friends.
