Obituary

JOHNSON, ROBERT "BOB" L. (AGE 68) OF CAPITAL HEIGHTS, MD

Robert Lewis Johnson peacefully entered into Eternal Rest to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC.

Robert, affectionately known as "Bob" and "PaPa", was born to the late Ernest and Lola Newman on July 2, 1946 in Washington, DC. He attended DC public schools and graduated from Cardozo Senior High School. On October 27, 1978, Bob married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Johnson (who passed away on March 3, 2002). Bob cherished his daughter, Rhonda and grandson, Christian (who he affectionately called "Love One").

Bob was a dedicated employee and worked within various Federal Government agencies. Before his retirement in 2000, Bob worked at the Smithsonian Institute in the Metro Support Department. He cherished his job and was quick to tell you the story of how he was part of the team that transported and set up the 8-ton African elephant named Henry in the rotunda at the National Museum of Natural History.

Bob and his wife, Pat, joined Ebenezer African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1988. His daughter, Rhonda, later joined in 1989. As a member of Ebenezer, Bob was a dedicated member of the Security Team. You could always find him at his post in the vestibule. He would also help his wife and the Media Ministry with transporting tapes from downstairs to the media booth. During his earlier years at Ebenezer, Bob took pride as one of the grill masters the Annual Church Picnic. He also helped with the church's outreach initiative when they distributed Thanksgiving packages to families in need.

Bob is survived by his only daughter, Rhonda Rene Porter; grandson, Christian David Randall ("Love One"); one sister, Renee Thrasher (Roger); one sister-in-law, Phyllis Cromartie Kittrell; two brother-in-laws, Walter "Doug" Cromartie (Debbie) and Gary "Gee" Cromartie; one niece, Jasmine King; three nephews, Benjamin Owens, Antonio Cromartie and Justin Kittrell; and many relatives and friends
