Obituary

Butler, Robert Daniel "Bird" (Age 58) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

Robert Daniel Butler (Bird) 58, of Upper Marlboro, MD., departed into eternal life on Sunday, September 29, 2013, at MedStar of Southern Maryland Hospital.



He was born to the late Thomas DeSales and Mary Edith Butler. He is also preceded in death by his brothers James, Lawrence, George, Thomas and his sister, Mary.



Bird graduated from Thomas Stone High School in 1974. He was inducted into the Thomas Stone High School, Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 for his spectacular skills in basketball. He was also known for his athletic abilities in baseball and football as well. He played for the Berry Road Orioles for many years.



He worked for Bozick Distributors for 30 years as a Driver Supervisor. He was dedicated to his position and was relied upon for being that dependable person to get the job done at any costs.



Bird met the love of his life on May 23, 2009 at Elks Lodge while out hand-dancing. They later married on March 26, 2011. From the day they met, they never spent more than one day apart. He was a dedicated and loving husband who always put his wife first. He enjoyed spending every free moment with her and unforgettable vocations. He loved to cook for his family and always looked forward to Sunday dinners with family and friends. He also enjoyed taking care of his father-in-law, Nathan Baldwin, Jr. whom he affectionately called Pop.



He was a die-hard Redskins fan! He actually enjoyed watching all sports, including baseball, basketball, golf, tennis and hockey.



He was a loving father and grandfather. He supported his grandchildren and loved knowing that Quintin wanted to follow in his footsteps in basketball. He loved all his children dearly and treated them all the same.



Bird leaves to cherish his memory: his devoted and loving wife Michelle; his children, Yolanda, Danielle, Mica (Poochie), Ronita, and Nicole; son-in-law Ron; brothers Charles and Joseph; sisters Alma and Alice; sisters-in-law Theresa (Ellen), Thelma, Linda, Theresa, Susan and Mary; brother-in-law Mark; father-in-law Nathan Baldwin, Jr.; grandchildren Quintin, Jalen, Kenica, Zachary, Mark, Jr.; he also leaves to cherish his memory, a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Viewing, 10am until time of Service, 12 noon, Friday, October 4, 2013 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.

Interment, immediately following the service at St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery, 4590 St. Joseph's Way, Pomfret, Maryland.
