Robert Archie Barnes of Laurel, Maryland, son of the late Charles Henry Barnes, Sr. and the late Janie Elizabeth (Ford) Barnes, was born in LaPlata, MD on September 7, 1932 and departed this life on Thursday, March 31, 2011 at the Cherry Lane Nursing Home, Laurel, Maryland.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Adelaide Barnes, and Ann Willette (Barnes) Perkins, two brothers, Wallace Eugene Barnes and Charles Henry Barnes, Jr. and two nephews, Lloyd Bernard Riley and Derric Charles Barnes, Jr.

Robert spent his life surrounded by family and friends who loved and cared for him. He loved spending time with his family and he enjoyed it when people came to visit. He also enjoyed celebrating the holidays, watching television, playing cards, dancing and singing. He will be missed.

Robert leaves to mourn his passing two nieces, Elizabeth (Liz) Edelen of Laurel, MD and Faith Amanda Barnes of Petersburg, VA, four nephews, Charles Elroy Adams of Baltimore, MD, William Isaac and James Ronald Riley both of Waldorf, MD and Steven Tyrone Barnes of Petersburg, VA, sister-in-law, Maggie Lee (Wilkerson) Barnes of Petersburg, VA and a host of other relatives and friends.

His viewing will be held in the Chapel of THORNTON FUNERAL HOME, PA, on Wednesday, April 6th, 11:00 am until services 12:00noon.
The interment will take place in St. Matthew's Methodist Church Cemetery, Newtown, MD.
