Johnson, Ricky (Age 61) of Accokeek, Maryland.

OBITUARY

RICKY JOHNSON, the eldest child of June Elizabeth (Scott) Johnson and the late Ervin Lester Johnson, was born July 7, 1954 in Washington D.C. He went to be with the Lord on January 26, 2016 after a long battle with cancer.

Ricky received his formal education at Bladensburg High School where he graduated in 1972, and The University of Maryland in 1974. Ricky was a firefighter in Prince George's County from 1977 until 1984. He then started a long and awarded career as a firefighter with the District of Columbia Fire Department (DCFD) eventually rising to the rank of Lieutenant of the fireboat. After 32 years, his career with the DCFD was definitely a noteworthy one. He was a member of the James H. Hill Lodge Number 16 PHA.

He acquired various skills, was very creative, and loved to work with his hands. He not only learned, but also taught others the skills he acquired as a carpenter, golfer, and a firefighter. We remember Ricky with a song in our heart. He was such a soulful, rhythmic man who explored all genres of music. He learned how to play almost every instrument he could get his hands on. If you ever needed a good laugh or a fun time, Ricky was the go-to guy. He made it a priority to make everyone feel comfortable and welcomed. His smile was huge, but not bigger than the heart he carried.

Family meant the world to Ricky. He leaves his heartwarming memories of his life to: his devoted mother, June Johnson; brothers by blood, Randolph (Mckenzi), and Reginal "Skippy" (Debra). Two daughters: Rikki and Alexis. Five grandchildren, Dominic, Kaila, Madeline, Sean and Huxley. One stepdaughter, Lakia and one stepgrandson, Deontae. Brothers by heart and by soul, Gary Walcott, Aaron Lewis, and Mike Thompson; as well as many other loyal friends, co-workers, neighbors, and the firefighter family. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and especially Dr. Kacie Saulters for their support in Ricky's final days.
