Celebrating the Life and Legacy of
Rev. Charles Henry Jackson, aka Henny, Jack, and “Action Jackson”
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
Charles Henry Jackson peacefully transitioned from this life on March 27, 2026, at his place of residence. He was born on March 1, 1944, in Nanjemoy, Maryland, to the late Henry “Tots” and Rosa Lee Jackson. He was preceded in death by his late stepmother, Howardine Jackson, and by his two brothers, Francis Jackson (Ruth) and Charles “Mickey” Simpson. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, craftsmanship, and unwavering faith.
Charles was educated in the Charles County Public School System, where he discovered his gift for working with his hands. A natural-born carpenter and woodworker, he used that talent throughout his career with Westinghouse and Thompson–Clark Construction Companies before becoming the proud owner of J&J Services. His craftsmanship was trusted, respected, and admired. He believed in “whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might” Ecclesiastes 9:10.
Charles gave his life to the Lord at an early age and was baptized at the Mt. Hope Baptist Church in Nanjemoy, Maryland. He was a faithful member and served as an usher and sang in the men's choir. After joining New Chapel Baptist Church, he was ordained as a Reverend. He served with the male chorus and was part of the Ministerial Staff until his health began to fail.
On September 27, 1969, he was united in holy matrimony to Dorothy Hazel Johnson. This blissful union lasted for 56 years until his death. Their loving partnership stood as a testament to faith, commitment, and the beauty of life they built together. From this union, Charles was the proud father of three lovely daughters: Monica Wynn, LaShonda Hart, and Sheleta Jackson. He was truly a “Girls Dad,” finding joy, pride, and purpose in being surrounded by his daughters.
Charles leaves to cherish his precious memories of his beloved wife, Dorothy Hazel Jackson, his three daughters, Monica (Eric), LaShonda (Courtney), and Sheleta (Edward). His five grandchildren, Jeffery, Jahla, Jasmyne, Eric, and Arykah, were the pride of his heart. Charles gave each a special nickname: “Nut, Jaybird, Snookie, ManMan, and Baby Girl,” and he celebrated their various accomplishments.
Charles also leaves to cherish his memories: one sister, Edna Jackson Proctor (Anthony), one uncle, VanDyke Lewis, one sister-in-law, Mary Louise Cross, and one brother-in-law, Vernon Johnson (Paulette).
Charles’s love extended far beyond his immediate family. His goddaughters, Christina Thomas and Allease “WuWu” Dillard, held a special place in his life, as did his many “adopted daughters”, Duchess, Janice, LaShawn, Victoria, Carlette, Chaya, and many more. His “bonus grandchildren,” JaMir, Christopher, Cameron, Eric, Cavion, Malachi, Chanya, Carrington, Gabrielle, Charleston, and Aria, and many others, brought him endless joy.
Charles is also remembered with love by his bonus sons, Kevin Johnson, Sylvester Garvin III, and Nelson White; his trusted handyman, Mr. Melvin Hart; and his dear friends Pastor Kenneth Spears, Mr. Jimmy, Mr. Stewart, Mr. Lee, Mr. Martin, and the 7-11 crew.
Charles will be truly missed by his nieces, nephews, family, and a host of other relatives, friends, and community members whose lives he touched.
A man of abiding faith, Reverend Jackson lived by the motto: “If I can help someone along the way, then my living will not be in vain.” He lived this truth daily, serving, helping, encouraging, uplifting, and loving without measure.
