She attended Cardoza High School and graduated from Dunbar High School. She went on to study at Miners Teacher College for her undergraduate degree in English. Later she received her Master's Degree from American University. She spent her career in the classroom as an English teacher.
She united in marriage with the late Mervin Lacey and from this union two children were born, the late Mervyn P. Lacey and the late Coby E. Sneed. She united in marriage a second time to Oluwole Oduba who also preceded her in death.
