Ralph Edward "Sonny" Ward, 72, of Washington, DC.

On Sunday, January 21, 2024, Ralph Edward "Sonny" Ward peacefully transitioned to his heavenly home, to be with the Father.  Ralph was born on June 18, 1951, in Conway, South Carolina to his late parents, Ralph McKinley Ward and Paula Mary Ward (Miller). Then, Ralph lived in Washington, DC and attended Birney Elementary School, Douglas Junior High School, and Ballou High School.

Ralph held various jobs, which included working at the DC Transit as a Correctional Officer, Police officer, and the United States Post Office. Ralph also served in the United States Army.

Ralph was a member at Open Door Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Ralph was a Redskins fan and he enjoyed watching football.  Ralph likes to stay connected to his family, friends, and loved ones.

Ralph is survived by his two children, Kimberly and Charlene, granddaughter, Charlee Rae, sister, Evelyn, brothers, Sherwood, Larry, and Robert, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.

Viewing, 9:00 a.m., until time of Service, 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 7, 2024, in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640.  Interment, 12:30 p.m., Quantico National Cemetery, 18424 Joplin Road, Triangle, Virginia 22172.
