January 27, 1942 – December 23, 2024
THOMPSON, PHYLLIS MARIE (AGE 82) OF LANDOVER, MARYLAND
Phyllis Marie Thompson was born on January 27, 1942, and was called home to the Lord on December 23, 2024. She was the daughter of the late William Sydney Thompson and Cecelia Gray Thompson.
She accepted Christ at an early age. She joined Saint Mary's Star of the Sea Catholic Church located in Indian Head, Maryland, and her strong religious beliefs provided comfort to her throughout her life. She received her early educational training in the Charles County Public School System where she received accolades for her attendance, deportment, and fidelity as a student. Following graduation, she attended Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.
Upon graduation, she was employed as a Research Analyst and an International Finance Analyst for the Defense Department in Fort Meade, Maryland. In these roles, she researched, analyzed, and reposted military activities and international finance activities; produced narrative and statistical reports on new developments and trends; created, maintained, and utilized reference files in support of reporting responsibilities, and briefed in-house support elements and customer query responses. During her tenure, she received numerous awards for outstanding accomplishments, performance, and dedication. For several years after retiring, she enjoyed working part-time learning the basics of the bindery and printing business utilized by the Howard County Government.
In 2005, she moved from Baltimore to Prince George's County to be closer to her family. She became a member of Mount Calvary Catholic Church located in Forestville, Maryland until she became ill in December 2022 and moved to Futurecare Senior Living. Her favorite experiences were traveling as often as possible and learning new things. Her most memorable occasions were the day she qualified to fly the Cessna 150 single engine airplane and the day she was requested to walk the runway for a Mother's Day Fashion Show. She loved watching horse racing and the Blue Angels Air Show. She also enjoyed watching all types of sports, especially the Baltimore Ravens, game shows, soap operas, and playing the Powerball, Mega Millions and purchasing scratch off tickets.
Phyllis was extremely thoughtful. She remembered birthdays and anniversaries with cards and/or phone calls, and it was not unusual to receive a letter from her where she had enclosed an article she thought the recipient might be interested in. She also shared a multitude of knock knock jokes with the children in her life who thought they were hilarious.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita, and brothers, Royal and William.
She leaves to cherish her memories and celebrate her life, her sisters Gladys (Calvin-deceased), and Terricida (Francis), nieces, nephew, numerous relatives and loving friends.
