Obituary

On June 17, 2017, Our Father called Phyllis Michelle Hairston to join His Heavenly Kingdom. Phyllis was born October 1, 1966 in Washington, DC to Mrs. Sylvia Washington and is the eldest of three daughters.

Phyllis received her education in the DC Public School System. Phyllis was united in marriage to Wayne Hairston on July 8, 1995 at Mt. Enon Baptist Church in Washington, DC. From this union two children were born: Precious Sellers (Jacque) and Tyrell Hairston.

Phyllis began her 19+ year career with Signal Corporation, currently General Dynamics Information Technology working on several Government contracts. From June 1998-2003 she worked at the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) as an IT Support Analyst and later a Senior Network Engineer. In 2003 she worked on the Senate Information Technology Support Contract as a Network Engineer, and later moved into the position of a Quality Assurance Analyst and onto her most recent position as a Service Desk Coordinator.

While employed full time, Phyllis earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, as well as, several professional certifications to enhance her career.

Phyllis was well known and well liked throughout the Senate community and her sudden departure has definitely left a void. She was not only a great employee, but coworker, manager and friend and an awesome person to all that knew her. She had an infectious smile and fun loving Spirit. The strong hold of the family – she cherished family vacation time, their annual Christmas Eve family PJ Party and being a part of any proud moments of her husband, children or grandchildren. She always wanted to see others succeed and extended a helping hand whenever she could. Her most chanted words of wisdom "1 thing for certain and 2 for sure….I say what I mean and I mean what I say".

Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother in law: Frances Hairston and sister-in-law: Yvette "Niecy" Brown, yet leaves to cherish the many, many fond memories are her devoted children, Precious Sellers (Jacque), Tyrell Hairston, Wayne Hairston II; husband: Wayne Hairston; grandchildren: Lalan, Samia, Khalil, Gabrielle, Oriana-Jae; mother: Sylvia Washington; sisters: Marsha Washington, Angela O'Brien; grandmother: Mary Conway; father-in-law: Joseph Spriggs; brother-in-law: Darryl Hairston; sisters-in-law: Tina and Anita Hairston; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
