COLLINS, PHILLIP EDWARD (AGE 79) OF MARBURY, MD
On Monday, July 11, 2016, Phillip E. Collins of Marbury, Maryland quietly entered eternal life at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, LaPlata, Maryland.
He was born on August 24, 1936 in Port Tobacco, Maryland to the late Columbia Collins and the late Catherine Farmer. Phillip attended Charles County Public Schools. He was employed by the Charles County Land Fill and held numerous positions until his last position of Equipment Operator upon his retirement. Phillip enjoyed the simpler things in life such as playing cards with his family and working outside. He loved to be outside. He was affectionately known to his step grandchildren and step great grandchildren as "PopPop."
In addition to his parents, Phillip joins in glory, sister, Hilda and brother, Thomas.
He was the husband of Mary Jane Collins and they recently celebrated 28 years of marriage on July 8, 2016.
In addition to his loving wife, Mary, he is survived by his step-children, Linda (Ernest), Mary (David), Carolyn (Ivan), Karen (Floyd), Phyllis (Lionel), Cathy (William), Vincent, William "Joe" and Elroy, a host of step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, sisters, Creola and Catherine, brothers, Joseph and William and Little Earl Burns III (who he helped raise), and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His viewing will be held from 9am until time of service 11am on Monday, July 18, 2016 in the Chapel of Thornton Funeral Home, P.A., 3439 Livingston Road, Indian Head, Maryland 20640. Interment St. Catherine's Catholic Church Cemetery, McConchie, Maryland.
