Philip Andrew Young, Sr., known as "Andrew" was born in Washington, DC on February 26, 1943. He was the son of the late, James L. Young, Sr. and Mary Agnes (Girlie) Holly. He departed this life at the age of 72 for eternal life with the Lord on December 13, 2015 at Southern Maryland Hospital, Clinton Maryland. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Agnes Holly, father, James L. Young, Sr. and sister, Dorothy L. (Young) Blair.
Andrew graduated in the Prince George's County Public School System from Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. After graduation he was employed with BK Miller Meats and Liquors in Clinton, Maryland. In March of 1964 he joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1970. He was later hired with the Department of Defense-Pentagon Police Officer for 33 years until he retired on April 3, 2003.
Andrew was a fanatic for football, never missed watching his favorite team, The Washington Redskins. He enjoyed watching the Wizards and the Nationals as well; he was simply a sports junkie.
He loved visiting and spending time with his relatives, and he lived for his grandbabies. He would take a bus to Jacksonville, North Carolina in a heartbeat to see his grandchildren and frequently received visits from his grandson in Waldorf, Maryland. Andrew enjoyed playing the lottery and was "often" times a lucky winner. He also enjoyed cooking, one of his specialties, "fresh greens and kale".
Andrew is survived by one son, Philip Andrew Young, Jr., daughter, Camille Jones, son-in law, Shawn Jones, four grandchildren, Maurice, Jordan, Phillip A. Young, III, Shaunessey, brother, James L. Young, Jr. (Doris), nieces, Diane Thomas and Lisa Banks, nephews, Marshall E. Blair, Gregory Blair, Alan Blair and Craig Young.
Andrew, the dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend that he was, will sorely be missed. We will forever hold onto all the fond memories.
