IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Paul Lee
Rivers, Sr.
January 3, 1943 – August 12, 2017
A Time To Be Born:
Paul Lee Rivers, Sr. was born on January 3, 1943 in Suffolk, Virginia to the late Rosa Lee Dotson.
A Time For Every Purpose Under Heaven:
Paul was educated in the South Hampton County public school system. He accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized. Upon graduation from high school he joined the United States Air Force and served more than 20 years. He was honorably discharged in 1987. He loved to golf, play bingo and visit the race tracks. He was very sociable and had many friends from various walks of life. He also enjoyed serving in the security and golfing ministries at Fort Foote Baptist Church.
A Time To Love:
After relocating to the Washington, D.C. area, he met the love of his life and was joined in holy matrimony to Ethel Louise Knight, his love and wife of more than 40 years.
A Time To Be Blessed:
To know him is to love him. Paul was a humble man. He was slow to anger and he encouraged others to seek peaceful solutions to any problem. Paul was a die-hard Redskin fan and when he was watching the game, he was not to be disturbed during the burgundy and gold. Paul was very active in church until his health began to fail about a year ago. Due to his illness, he was unable to come out to worship, but he enjoyed the services online.
A Time To Transition:
During the early morning hours on Saturday, August 12, 2017, Paul took flight and transitioned to his reward at the age of 74. This concluded the last chapter of his book of life and it is gently placed on the shelf of eternity in our hearts.
Left to cherish his fondest memories are his wife Ethel (Toot), his children, Terence, Paul, Jr. (Ursula) and Derek (Tena), all from the Maryland area, one sister-in-law, six grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews, relative and friends.
