Obituary

Mrs. Patsy D. (Worthington) Sumler, (Age 65) of Clinton, Maryland.

Patsy D. Sumler was born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina, where she spent her youth. In 1968, Pat relocated to Washington, D.C. She later moved to Clinton, Maryland, which she and Willie called home. Pat met the love of her life, Willie Sumler, in 1968, and on August 8, 1974, they were united in marriage. Pat was an alum of Howard University in Washington, D.C. She also was a past member of the Eastern Star and a Daughter of Isis. She worked for a while as a Metrobus operator, and later as a contractor for the U. S. Department of State, where she remained until she retired on disability. While she was baptized at Faith Temple #2 OFWB Church in Capitol Heights, Maryland, she joined Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, Maryland, in 2006. Pat loved her church and was an active member of the Member Services Ministry until her health precluded her participation. Pat loved life.

She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her infectious laugh and her love of a good joke. Pat loved to travel and particularly enjoyed cruises. She also loved to shop and visit casinos with her daughter and friends. An avid Dallas Cowboys fan, Pat loved the friendly rivalry between Cowboys and Redskins fans! She loved hand-dancing and playing cards, Bid Whist! Pat, along with her husband, Willie, enjoyed cooking and serving up delicious meals to their family and friends. You would often hear her say, come on and eat, or you need to put some more food on that plate.

Preceded in death by her mother, Lola Worthington, Pat departed this life in the wee morning hours of Saturday, April 15. Pat leaves to cherish her memories, her devoted, loving husband, Willie; daughter, Fontella; son, Bernard (Gwen); granddaughters, Myla and Alycia; son-in-love, Tommy Hinson; sister, Elma (Ernest) Lofton of Goldsboro, North Carolina; brothers, David (Esther) Worthington of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Roddie (Sylvia) Worthington of Wilson, North Carolina and Thomas (Vera) Worthington of Washington, D.C.; godmother, Evangelist Nina Pender; sister-cousins, Minnie Sandidge and Wanda Maddox; god-sisters, Geneather Lloyd, Deborah Harding and Tjuana Jenkins; godchildren, Chantal Curtis, Daphne Session, Kim Ross, Barbara Jones, Patrice Walker, Angela Trueheart- Bell, James Curtis III, Dreyk Joineur and Louis Twitty; long time friends James and Tina Curtis, Freddie and Carolyn Leigh, and Carmen Mack, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other family and friends. God has spoken, and He makes no mistakes. Let us simply say, Amen!
