IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Patricia Viola
Chesley
November 16, 1942 – January 22, 2022
Patricia Viola (Johns) Chesley, 79 of Pomfret, Maryland.
Life Journey
Patricia Chesley of Pomfret, MD entered into eternal rest on Saturday January 22, 2022, at the UM Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, MD surrounded by her loving family.
Patricia was born in Philadelphia, PA on November 16, 1942 to the late James Aaron Johns Sr. and Margaret Boggs Johns. She, with her mother and siblings Jimmy and Arline, moved to Spring Hill, Maryland in 1947 and lived with her grandmother the late Ethel Boggs Warren.
Affectionately known by her family and close friends as Patsy or Pat, she was educated in the Charles County Public School system graduating from Bel Alton High School in 1960. She was an outstanding soprano and sang with the school's choir. If you ever attended church with Patricia you could often hear her melodic voice over the entire congregation, (yes, she sang loudly and lovely).
Following graduation from high school Patricia took secretarial classes at the Atlantic Business School in Washington, DC and subsequently began her government service at the Department of Immigration and Naturalization. Patricia later worked for the Civil Aeronautics Board Docket Section and completed her government service with the Department of Transportation Docket Section retiring with 38 years of government service.
While attending high school Patricia met the love of her life, John L. Chesley Sr. She and "Louis" were married on October 29, 1966, sharing 55 splendid years. Pat and Louis were the picture of marriage, exemplifying how to support each other in all areas of a family. Together they played hard and worked hard for their family. Out of this union they were blessed with two children, Phyllis and Junie.
Patricia loved her children and was an outstanding role model to each of them. She spoke with her children daily, often sharing laughs or wise counsel. When Junie was driving trucks at night, many times she would be up talking with him, for hours, until he reached his destination. A true mother's love.
Patricia also loved Cape May, New Jersey. She and Louis owned property in Cape May and enjoyed more than 40 years at the Jersey shore, enjoying the sites while sitting at the "mini mall" on Washington Street, or enjoying a scrumptious dinner at the Lobster House. Cape May was Patricia's "happy place".
Affectionately known as "GiGi" to her grandchildren Patricia loved and was especially proud of them all. After retirement she was often the "after-school" taxi, the babysitter, the pancake maker, and the sideline cheerleader.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents James A. Johns Sr. and Margaret Boggs Johns, and sister Arline Chesley. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband John "Louis" Chesley Sr., children Phyllis Chesley McDougle (Dexter) and John "Junie" L. Chesley Jr. (Renee), brother James "Jimmy" Johns. Jr. (MaryAnn), grandchildren Olivia Holmes-Chesley, John Ray, Faith Chesley, Jayden Chesley; bonus grandchildren Kevin Creek Jr. and Alina Creek, devoted friends Burnett Blandford, Jean Thomas, Angela Ames, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
